The Chevron Civil/Structural Engineer will be a member of the Richmond Refinery Plant Support Designs Engineering Department, providing civil and structural designs support.
The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer plays a key role supporting the Refinery’s mission to operate safely, reliably, predictably, and profitably. This involves taking a lead role in understanding and evaluating structures and facilities in both a marine and onshore environment, working closely with Operations and Maintenance to provide civil/structural engineering expertise, and following through with proactive design and execution of engineering work packages, engineering analysis and project deliverables. The Civil/Structural Engineer role will provide senior level support on projects of higher complexity and scope under limited supervision. The Civil/Structural Engineer also serves a local Subject Matter Expert (SME) within their particular area of experience and, as such, will mentor and guide less-experienced engineers through troubleshooting and lower complexity projects. This role reports to the Central Engineering Team Leader within the Plant Support Designs Engineering Department.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
+ Provide civil/structural engineering support for routine daily operation of process units within the refinery. Support requires collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to partner with Operations, Maintenance and Technical functions within the global refining system.
+ Provide civil/structural engineering support for facility-wide improvement initiatives that require collaboration and leadership skills necessary to partner with multiple stakeholders.
+ Sphere of influence ranges from working with Operations personnel in the field on a specific piece of equipment to partnering with technical personnel at the Manufacturing level to improve Chevron performance, operation, reliability, and safety across all Chevron refineries.
+ Provide active field support working with Operations and other technical teams to scope civil and structural repairs and troubleshoot issues in process plants. Field support requires climbing of ladders to elevated areas and potentially confined space entries. Solutions often include the development and selection of alternatives considering reliability, total cost of ownership, operability and HSE impacts. Support implementation of solutions through Routine Maintenance, Turnaround execution and project construction and startup.
+ Develop and manage civil/structural plans for larger projects and to install or replace complex equipment.
+ Develop purchase specifications for engineered civil/structural equipment ensuring that the equipment meets company and industry standards and manage the technical fabrication and factory acceptance testing requirements for procuring equipment.
+ Provide guidance for technical inquiries, issue technical recommendations, provide equipment and system troubleshooting, improve civil/structural engineering tools and support the development and improvement of civil/structural engineering work processes.
+ Perform and support various technical studies to improve plant safety, reliability, throughput and economics.
+ Provide engineering analysis, consultation and project management for small and major capital projects.
+ Provide mentorship and guidance to develop less-experienced engineers, partnering with them to resolve equipment and project related issues.
+ Review and approve engineering work plans of varying complexity, size, and scope.
+ Be a role model for the Chevron Way and Chevron’s safety culture.
Required Qualifications:
+ Knowledge of onshore and fixed nearshore marine (wharf) facilities and structures, foundations, geotechnical engineering, roads, bridges, equipment transportation, lifting, and installation, seismic design considerations, earthwork (grading & paving), hydrology, and underground utility systems.
+ Proven ability to:
+ -Perform structural design and analysis of fixed onshore and marine systems in accordance with applicable Chevron, industry, state, and federal codes and standards
+ -Perform engineering tasks on projects such as: establishing structural design basis; structural weight estimation; beam/column/frame design; construction, transport and installation validation.
+ -Evaluate structural integrity of onshore structures, substructures, and their foundations. Designs and executes modifications and repairs.
+ -Review lift plans, and reviews or performs calculation for structural members, spreader bars, and padeyes. Evaluates field conditions for lift operation.
+ -Specify, purchase, support install and commission and troubleshoot of civil and structural systems in the field.
+ General knowledge of geotechnical engineering, deep and shallow foundation systems, and structural engineering (design & repair of steel and concrete structures)
+ Understanding of the California Building Code, the Process Industry Practices (PIP), and relevant industry codes (examples: AISC 7-16, ACI 318-19, AISC Steel Construction Manuel, etc.)
+ Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California (Civil Engineering)
+ An understanding of refinery (or similar complex processing facility) processes and equipment
+ Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering required.

+ The anticipated salary range for this position is $ 114,500 – $ 226,300. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
