How you make a difference

The Claims Litigation Manager is a key member of the team responsible for managing the company's professional and general liability claims, with a focus on healthcare liability claims. This individual must have solid experience managing medical malpractice claims, preferably in a multi-state environment. The Claims Litigation Manager will lead the litigation team in providing strategic guidance, evaluating claim exposure, and making recommendations to senior management on the resolution of complex claims. 



Key Responsibilities Administer and maintain professional and general liability litigation and claims functions at Wellpath, overseeing claims reporting, tracking, and coordination with defense attorneys, insurance adjusters, and others. Prepare reports on litigation status and ensure compliance with company claims reporting requirements and "Best Practices."Manage day-to-day claims activities, including entering data into the RMIS system, analyzing exposures, recommending settlements or denials, and processing claims within designated authority levels. Work closely with defense counsel on litigation matters, including expert selection, attendance at mediations, trials, and depositions, and coordination of responses to discovery.Participate in producing monthly loss runs, loss data, and risk management dashboards, providing advisories on claims exceeding specified thresholds and files to be tried within 12 months. Produce additional claims-related reports, including quarterly metrics, and conduct claims management educational programs for all management levels as needed.Coordinate internal and external claims reporting, serve as the primary contact for outside counsel on litigation matters, and communicate promptly and professionally when answering questions and gathering claims information. Conduct detailed bill reviews to implement effective litigation management and expense control.Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims, demonstrating technical knowledge and human relations skills for fair and prompt case disposal, contributing to a reduced loss ratio. Verify and analyze data used in settling claims to ensure validity and adherence to company practices, attend mediations and trials, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of coverage and policy provisions.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

Relevant bachelor’s degree required. 

Experience

10+ years of claims and/or litigation experience with a focus on handling professional healthcare and/or correctional liability claims.  Experience in correctional healthcare a plus, but not required.  

Licenses/Certifications

CPCU, ARM, or Licensed Claims Adjuster preferred. Licensed attorney and/or RN preferred, but not required.
