Job Summary:
Primary job responsibility is to provide oversight and management of third-party claims against AmeriGas Propane (the “Company”) which are assigned to and handled by the Company’s claims third-party administrator (TPA), related to the Company’s insurance programs (auto liability and general liability). The Company receives thousands of claims every year across all 50 states. Regulatory requirements vary across states which produces a highly complex portfolio of claims. The Company has hired a Third-Party Claims Administrator (“TPA”) who is responsible for administrative tasks associated with each claim. Without the TPA, the Company would need to hire a large team of internal claim administrators. This position is responsible for the oversight, management and strategic direction of the TPA to ensure the Company is getting the best financial result.
The role is hybrid, targeting 2 days a week in the office which is located in King of Prussia, PA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for: (a) managing small third-party auto liability and general liability claims assigned to and handled by TPA; (b) reviewing, verifying and paying monthly TPA invoices; (c) negotiating TPA contract; and (d) managing the submission, review, and payment of legal invoices submitted by the Company’s defense counsel on litigated third-party auto liability and general liability claims (e) reviewing TPA overall performance (f) set strategic direction on TPA prioritization of claims Provides oversight to TPA for handling of small third-party auto liability and general liability claims through the following tasks: Reviewing claim summary/analysis and requests for authority from TPA for claim closure for non-pursuit, for claim denial, for reserve amount, or for settlement amount; Regularly reviewing claims files; Meeting regularly with TPA adjusters to discuss claims, issues, and other matters related to claims handling, requested authority, and resolution; Coordinating the delivery of claims-related information, documents, records, etc. from Operations, e.g., Territory Managers, to handling TPA adjuster; Participating in mediations and other claim-related matters; Establishing timely and reviewing for adequacy reserves (loss and expense) for small third-party auto liability and general liability claims; Managing the process for the submission and review of legal invoices; Developing and maintaining appropriate servicing instructions for TPA; Developing, analyzing, and reporting on various claims-related metrics reports; Formally reviewing claims files, including file reviews and annual audit; Providing ongoing training of external claims personnel. Responsible for assisting Litigation Counsel in managing large third-party auto liability and general liability claims assigned to and handled by TPA, as well as litigated claims, as required, through the following tasks: Assisting in assigning outside counsel to litigated claim files; Overseeing outside counsel and experts; Providing regular update of reported claims to the insurance carriers and/or monitoring counsel in compliance with contractual requirements; Assisting in the management of the quarterly claims reserve meeting, related reports and TPA updates; Providing loss run and exposure detail to various departments, including Finance; Advising Corporate Insurance of any incident that may require reporting under the insurance contracts; Assuring settlement authority is received and documented prior to approving cash calls for TPA; Working with Litigation Counsel to provide oversight of legal expenses and cost containment efforts; Participating in strategic planning and implementation of action plans. Responsible for providing guidance and support to Customer Experience and managers to investigate and resolve claims-related customer complaints and other small claims matters as assigned Providing Management reporting as needed, including ad-hoc reporting from TPA or Company RMIS system Maintaining departmental policies and procedures related to claims handlin Providing budget forecasts related to claims exposure for each line of business in coordination with Finance and the Actuaries Providing customer service support to field and outside claimants in establishing claims that have not been communicated through the Company’s safety departments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Technical knowledge of auto liability and general liability claims and litigation, processing claims, assessment of liability and damages, and valuation of claims, including litigated claims Ability to prioritize and complete multiple, competing tasks Ability to interface with various levels of management; excellent written and oral communication skills Technical knowledge relating to insurance policies and coverages; Manage TPA performance and staff with minimal oversight
Education and Experience Required:
BA, Business Administration, Finance, or other relevant degree Minimum 8 year’s experience
