TITLE: Mentor- Classified Staff
REPORTS TO: Building/Department Supervisor
MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The Mentor will provide role-based guidance to the new classified staff member for a 3 month (90 day) timeframe. The mentor will support the new classified staff member in connecting to other members of the staff, the role of the position, and the larger Marion district as well provide support specific to district, building, and/or department procedures and expectations.
SALARY: $100 stipend, payable upon completion of the 3 month (90 day) mentoring cycle, prorated. Up to 5 hours additional time over the 3 months, beyond regularly scheduled hours (not to exceed 40 hrs/week; approximately 2.5 hrs during the first 2 weeks and 2.5 hrs over the remaining 2.5 months), for mentor/mentee support.
PURPOSE: To strengthen connections of new staff members to colleagues, the role of the job, and the Marion Independent School District community with the intent of successfully onboarding new staff and supporting staff retention.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Using the Classified Staff Mentor Checklist, orient the new staff member to the role
+ Provide job shadowing during the first few days of the job
+ Introduce to others on staff
+ Provide a building/district tour relevant to the role
+ Provide role-based guidance and assistance to the new classified staff member
+ Provide a collegial relationship for the new classified staff member in their new work environment
+ Provide new classified staff member with an overview of procedures and tools such as use of time clock, leave system, district email, and Staff Resources
+ Attend mentor training
+ Meet at a minimum daily in the first 3 days, and once per week during the first month, and bi-monthly during months 2 and 3 to provide support and guidance
+ May serve as the mentor for 1-3 staff members at a given time (not to exceed 3)

+ Demonstrate a growth mindset
+ Demonstrate an ability to problem solve in a positive manner
+ Demonstrate a desire for continued professional learning
+ Demonstrate proficiency in the role for which mentoring is required
+ Possess strong organizational skills
+ Demonstrate the following core values of the district: Collaborative Relationships; The Marion Way (Respect, Responsibility, Safety, Integrity), as well as a focus on supporting students and colleagues.
EDUCATION and TRAINING:
+ At a minimum, one successful year in the role for which mentoring is required
+ At a minimum, 6 months at Marion Independent School District
+ Participation in MISD Classified Mentor training (provided upon hire for the role)
