Yes If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The SUNY Cortland Child Care Center is accepting applications for part-time and full-time classroom aide(s) to assist Child Care Center programming as a floater and or substitute as needed. Classroom aides assist the Head Teacher /Asst. Teacher (Preschool/Inf./Todd.)-Child Care Center) to plan and conduct an effective child development program in a safety conscious manner to meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of each child at their developmental level in accordance with the goals, philosophy, and curriculum plan set forth by the center as outlined in the NAEYC criteria. Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Carry out childcare activities daily and evaluate the effectiveness of child development activities. In Teacher’s/Teaching Asst.’s absence supervise staff assigned to assist in the classroom. Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children. Routinely communicate with parents. Ensure that parents receive adequate information about their children and their experiences through daily reports. Contribute to the effective operation of the overall child care center program. Ensure that child care routines and guidelines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, potty training, hand washing, tooth brushing, medication administration, eating, napping, and transitioning between activities. Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self disciplined. Provide a variety of experiences that promote individual language stimulation, imaginative play and activity. Provide a variety of opportunities to help children develop and understand appropriate and caring relationships with each other. Be aware of and report any evidence of child abuse or neglect to the director. Communicate daily with the director regarding vital information concerning children and families and classroom operations. Utilize Bright Wheel iPad app for the purposes of communicating with families, disseminating information daily and responding to messages from families in a timely manner.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other attributes necessary for successful job performance: • Effective interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with all center staff, children, and parents. Must be punctual and dependable. Ability to handle crises. Effective communication skills. Demonstrate a warm, supportive attitude towards children. Ability to work independently. Flexible in receiving assignments and/or adapting to changes in the program. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Familiarity with mobile device applications (Apps). Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to the Child Care Center Director (Project Administrative Officer) and receives functional supervision from the Teacher/Teaching Assistants. May provide direction to student workers and substitutes (Research Aides) and temporary workers and substitutes (Project Aides). Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and two years experience working with children (infants, and/or preschool children); Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and developmental levels of children; Pass the required physical examination, child clearance process and maintain required health standards. Preferred Qualifications Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or current CDA (Child Development Associate); Demonstrated knowledge of discipline practice and classroom management skills; Demonstrated knowledge of teaching methods and observation techniques, proper health, safety and sanitation techniques and regulations.
