What are the primary duties and responsibilities?

Classroom Management

Assist other professional staff in diagnosis of learning disorders, development of planned remediation and evaluation of student progress Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence and self-advocacy Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress Administer specialized testing as necessary Follow-up with concerns from teachers, parents and/or administrative staff Prepare student reports and activities as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement

Lesson Preparation and Delivery

Prepare student education plans in consultation with the school district administrative team Design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate those objectives to students Maintain accurate and complete student records and submit reports as required Articulate curriculum between and among student levels

IEP Implementation and Management

Act as coordinator of IEP implementation with general education staff Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists and professionals to develop individual education plans designed to promote students’ educational, physical and social development Monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of IEP, as appropriate
