General Summary:This role has ownership and accountability for the ongoing delivery of highly responsive and accurate customer service for Unum’s integrated products and may service clients from different-sized market segments. This role partners with other departments to ensure the accuracy of invoices, correspond with clients to follow up on outstanding payments, and resolve billing issues. The incumbent collaborates with the field operations to drive high customer loyalty and persistency, mitigates risk, and represents Client Services in a customer facing capacity.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for policy administration and the coordination of activities associated with group plans, fee related products and services.Educate customers and brokers on products, processes, technology, and offerings, engaging in education on their unique benefit plan design and/or digital ecosystem.Support and resolve billing inquiries from external and internal partners through effective research and education.Apply customer premium from various internal accounts and process refund checks as necessary to resolve billing discrepancies.Review and understand policy provisions and internal workflows to identify when to collaborate effectively across functional teams.May perform audits including, but not limited to, enrollment activity, premium remittance and allocation, compensation validation and policy changes.Drive customer satisfaction by managing and prioritizing the high volumes of inquiries from internal and external customers.Connect with clients on outstanding balances.Monitor and takes action on various critical financial reports and data.Contribute to individual and team level metrics to ensure that departmental goals are met.May assist in improvement opportunities (assisting with projects and piloting new workflows and procedures) and rollout of new products.Maintain high quality standards and accuracy on all interactions and outputs.May assist field partners and with billing timeline development for new and reenrolled accounts, including change and deduction needs. Obtaining initial premium payment for enrollments events.May perform other duties as assigned or coach others as needed.

Job Specifications

College degree preferred, or equivalent experience required1-2 years of experience in Customer Services, Billing or HR administration preferredStrong customer service orientationAbility to utilize and leverage technology and systemsSolid research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound business decisions and utilize resourcesDeveloping understanding of insurance marketplaceDeveloping effective relationship building and consultative skillsDemonstrates leadership capabilities as defined in Unum’s Leadership and We are Unum characteristicsStrong communication and collaboration skills, both verbal and writtenGood interpersonal negotiation, persuasion, and conflict management skillsSolid organizational, planning, and time management skills – able to balance competing priorities and navigate in a fast-paced, complex environmentVersatility/adaptability with ability to embrace changeStrong Excel skills preferredSolid mathematical aptitude, analytical skills, and attention to detail

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$40,000.00-$75,600.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.  All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
