Client Executive – Financial Communications & Capital Markets

ABOUT EDELMAN SMITHFIELDEdelman Smithfield is the financial communications & capital markets arm of Edelman. We specialize in providing strategic corporate communications for blue-chip financial services firms, including asset management, pensions, insurance, professional services, and consumer finance. We advise public and private companies on financial and capital markets communications during business-as-usual and transformative events such as M&A, IPOs, Spinoffs, Bankruptcies, and Investor Relations.
THE ROLE:We are looking for a Client Executive/Senior Client Executive to join our fast-growing team of financial communications specialists. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated professional eager to build a career in financial PR, investor relations, and strategic communications. As a Client Executive/Senior Client Executive, you will gain hands-on experience working closely with senior leadership and supporting top-tier financial clients. You’ll take part in everything from research and analysis to media strategy and client engagement—playing a key role in shaping financial narratives in a dynamic, high-impact environment.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Communications: Support the development and execution of communications strategies that align with client goals.Media & Investor Relations: Drive media engagement programs, develop key messaging, and foster relationships with financial media.Research & Market Analysis: Conduct research on industry trends, competitors, and regulatory changes to inform client strategies.Client Engagement: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, supporting senior team members in executing high-quality financial PR campaigns.Crisis & Issues Management: Monitor news cycles, analyze risks, and assist in developing response strategies.Digital & Social Media Strategy: Help implement digital communications strategies, including content creation for financial services audiences.New Business Development: Assist in pitch preparation, research, and proposal development for potential clients.What We’re Looking For:Financial Savvy: A strong understanding of financial services, capital markets, or corporate communications. Prior experience in financial PR, investor relations, or journalism is a plus.Exceptional Communicator: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex financial concepts into clear messaging.Media Relations Experience: Confidence in liaising with journalists and building relationships with key financial media outlets. Strong writing skills and an instinct for what makes news.Attention to Detail: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Analytical Thinker: Ability to critically assess financial and business trends, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.Team Player: A collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn from senior leaders and contribute fresh ideas.Minimum bachelors’ degree. A degree in finance/business/accounting/economics is a plus.
