Role Introduction

Reports to: Head of Climate Action

The Climate Change Manager sits under the Group Sustainability Department will be responsible for planning and executing Cathay Pacific Group’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) strategy under climate change strategy to contribute the company’s target of ‘10% SAF usage by 2030’ and ‘net zero carbon emissions by 2050’.

You will be responsible for tracking and engaging with policies related to SAF and other aircraft-related environmental policies in Hong Kong and overseas, SAF policy lobbying, partnership management in HK and overseas and managing climate risk and/or adaptation. Additionally, you will also be responsible for reviewing and updating the company's climate-related policies and supporting aircraft operation environment related initiatives such as SAF from other teams as well as capturing opportunities brought about by SAF.

Key Responsibilities
Monitor and track SAF policy developments in Hong Kong and globally, providing regular updates and insights to other business units within CathayAdvocate for comprehensive SAF policies by engaging with local regulators, industry stakeholders, and members of the SAF value chain; and support education and advocacy campaigns aimed at increasing public awareness and support for SAFBuild and manage partnerships with airlines, NGOs, research organisations, academia, and global SAF suppliers to advance SAF adoption and innovationMonitor global and local environmental regulations and policies related to air emissions, carbon markets, aircraft noise, and air pollutionRepresent Cathay in policy discussions, both locally and internationally, regarding environmental regulations affecting aircraft operations; and provide ongoing support for SAF sourcing and evaluation efforts in collaboration with other internal teamsLead efforts to manage climate risk and adaptation initiatives across the organisation; and review and update Cathay climate-related policies and provide guidance to business units on changes in environmental regulations affecting aircraft operationsSupport climate change initiatives and projects led by other teams, ensuring policy alignment and complianceAnalyse the financial impact of current and future emissions and environmental regulations, including SAF mandates, CORSIA, EU/UK ETS, and other frameworks, to inform strategic decision-makingProvide ongoing input to Cathay Pacific’s carbon model and net zero roadmap, incorporating analysis of emissions regulations and their implications for operationsDevelop and refine cost models to estimate sustainability-related costs, including SAF procurement and compliance with regulatory requirementsRequirements
A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the area of aviation environment especially climate change, renewable energy, public policy with detailed knowledge of environmental policy process being a plus; knowledge on policy process especially in HK and oversea; experience on partnership with upstream and downstream in aviation climate changeMaster’s Degree in the field of aviation environment, environment social and economic analysis, public policy or relevantA team player; strong interpersonal & communication skill; ability to work well independently and in a team environment; pioneer spirit and intrapreneurship; experience of working in a cross-cultural and highly matrixed organisation; demonstrated experience in conflict management and multi-task capabilityKnowledge of aviation climate change, sustainable aviation fuel especially regarding the whole value chain of SAFSkills on Date Analysis and Modelling will be a plusMust be fluent in spoken and written English.
