Climate Data Steering Committee Secretariat Lead - 2 year fixed term contract
The Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC) was established by French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael R. Bloomberg in June 2022 in response to the global climate data challenge. The CDSC – which brings together leaders from a broad set of international organisations and standard setters, plus a diverse set of jurisdictions - aims to accelerate and help build a broadly accessible foundation of high-quality climate data that is critical to delivering the net-zero transition. The CDSC has set out a vision for the development of an open data utility for private sector climate transition-related data: the Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU). As envisioned by the CDSC, the aim is for the NZDPU to become a global, centralized, open repository for private sector climate transition-related data, that is freely available to all stakeholders helping to accelerate efforts to direct capital to low- or zero-carbon investments, and provide the ability to monitor progress against emissions reductions targets. The CDSC oversees the ongoing development of the NZDPU and works collaboratively to maximize the useability and accessibility of core climate transition-related data. We are looking for a self-starting and effective individual with some relevant experience but who is keen to learn about how to deliver a secretariat function to support a senior international policy committee. In this exciting role, you would ensure that we run a world class secretariat to support the CDSC/NZDPU in delivering on their vision for a transparent and effective climate transition data ecosystem. The role would entail supporting effective governance, processes and policy outturns for the CDSC, in close collaboration with those delivering data and technical solutions around the NZDPU. The role requires someone who has some understanding of climate data or disclosures, or wider policy, but is willing to dig in and upskill on these important topics. It requires excellent organisational and communication skills. We'll trust you to: + Support the management of governance, membership and wider processes for the CDSC effectively, ensuring that we work strategically and systematically to deliver on a forward strategy to improve climate transition data disclosures not least by ensuring the success of the NZDPU; + Support the running of the annual schedule of CDSC Principals and Delegates meetings, ensuring these are scheduled in a timely manner, materials for the meetings are prepared and circulated well in advance and that we record, communicate and progress decisions made by the Committee appropriately and effectively; + Support the Chair of the CDSC and other Leaders through time including briefings for formal CDSC meetings and events, bilateral engagements and on governance, membership and policy issues arising through time; + Maintain a high degree of literacy on the wide range of policy and technical issues arising from climate transition data and disclosures at the international level and in key jurisdictions, communicate on these to the wider team and develop and promote solutions; + Develop and maintain effective relationships across the institutions and jurisdictions represented on the CDSC and beyond to support the work of the CDSC and the forming of strategic partnerships. Stay informed on and communicate on key developments or initiatives from major climate data stakeholders and CDSC members across the team. Expectations: + An understanding of climate data and disclosure issues gained through 3-5 years’ relevant experience, and a keenness to dig in and learn about this important topic to help identify policy and technical solutions; + Some experience of, or a willingness to learn, about governance structures and policy and communication norms for multi-stakeholder committees with public sector participation; + Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to research a topic, considering various angles, and to write a clear reasoned briefing on the issue setting out options for policymakers to consider; + Self-starting and a demonstrated ability to organise the timely delivery of a piece of work or project, having a clear sense of intermediate steps and timelines and ensuring delivery of those; + Strong written and verbal communication skills such that you can present and discuss policy options, having worked to understand underlying technical opportunities and constraints; + Strong team player, willing to develop strong relationships, and to pitch in and support work across our global effort as and when needed.
