Clinical Athletic Trainer/Physician Extender- Green Bay Metro Area

This position will work almost exclusively in Sports Medicine and will have the opportunity to work with physicians that care for local high schools, colleges, and professional teams.

What you will do

Know and apply the commonly accepted standards for confidentiality. Execute duties within the identified scope of practice for athletic trainers. Room patients according to standard rooming process. Obtain a thorough medical history Apply clinical-reasoning skills throughout the physical examination of a patient. Use standard techniques and procedures for the clinical examination of common injuries, conditions, illnesses, and diseases. Assess and interpret findings from a physical examination that is based on the patient’s clinical presentation. This exam can include: • Assessment of posture, gait, and movement patterns • Palpation • Muscle function assessment • Assessment of quantity and quality of osteokinematic joint motion • Capsular and ligamentous stress testing • Joint play (arthrokinematics) • Selective tissue examination techniques / special tests • Neurologic function (sensory, motor, reflexes, balance, cognition) • Cardiovascular function (including differentiation between normal and abnormal heart sounds, blood pressure, and heart rate) • Pulmonary function (including differentiation between normal breath sounds, percussion sounds, number and characteristics of respirations, peak expiratory flow) • Gastrointestinal function (including differentiation between normal and abnormal bowel sounds) • Genitourinary function (urinalysis) • Ocular function (vision, ophthalmoscope) • Function of the ear, nose, and throat (including otoscopic evaluation) • Dermatological assessment • Other assessments (temperature, height, weight) Determine when the findings of an examination warrant referral of the patient. Order appropriate imaging as directed by physician. Assist with office procedures including, but not limited to: MSK ultrasound assessment, platelet rich plasma injections, joint/bursa aspirations, joint injection. Provide in room therapeutic exercises. Dispense and fit durable medical equipment. Casting Provide telephone advice to patients as directed. Provide pre/post operative education. Communicate with providers regarding patient calls. Call in prescription refills as directed. Schedule hospital and office tests, procedures and surgeries. Communicate with hospitals and other offices as directed by the providers. Complete referral forms, and make referral appointments. Act as a liaison for physicians. Update the medical record by filing dictation and test results as they return to the department. Pre-certify for surgical procedures and tests. Assist physicians with scheduling. Facilitate completion of forms (ex. return to play, return to work, W/C, insurance, etc by the physicians.) Participate in medical coverage for community and high school outreach events as requested.
