Clinical Care Assistant Apprentice
Position Summary

Sanitas developed a customized Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program for interested candidates to work as allied health professionals under the job title Clinical Care Assistant (CCA). This program will train the CCA to provide quality patient care through clinical and administrative tasks of a traditional Medical Assistant alongside an interdisciplinary team of Nurses and Physicians at Sanitas’ facilities. This program offers online and in person instruction as well as on-the job training.

 

This is a competency-based program designed to prepare employees to deliver health care services as medical assistants.

 

The content of this program includes but is not limited to scope of practice of a Medical Assistant, communication, people skills, clerical and clinical duties, legal and ethical responsibilities, health-illness concepts, billing and coding, emergency responses, first aid, emergency preparedness, infection control guidelines, medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.

Essential Job Functions

Each of the job functions below will be performed progressively as the CCA apprentice is signed off on the skills by their journey-worker.

Interview patients, measure vital signs and record information on patient charts. Assist with daily patient flow in areas as needed. Gives direct patient care and performs indirect patient care activities and laboratory tests, under the direction of a physician or nurse. Take appropriate action to maintain a safe and aesthetic environment. Performs EKG and assists in procedures/treatments as ordered by physician Performs invasive procedures only under supervision and after skills signed off by a nurse or physician, such as vaccine and medication administration via IM/SC/ID/Oral, among others. Performs supervised lab work once the skill has been signed off by a nurse or physician as per physician orders and prepares instrumental equipment for sterilization. Adheres to Nursing Department policies and procedures. Checks equipment and supplies prior to use for function, inspection and expiration date; reports malfunction of medical equipment and safety issues to supervisor. Complies with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations (biomedical wastes, handling and disposal) for the center as per regulations. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Degree of teamwork and cooperation with personnel from other departments. Maintain a logging system for different procedures as required and enter nursing procedures and other information in the computer system. Check medical records and follow up obtaining missing results prior to the patient's appointment. Able to rotate weekends, holidays, and shifts and center location according to company needs. Perform clerical duties of front offices such as, check-in and check-our registration process. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work standing up, walk, use hands to operate tools and equipment and must be able to exert regularly up to 10 pounds of force, frequently exert 30 pounds of force and occasionally exert 50 pounds of force to constantly perform the essential job functions. The employee will be frequently required to reach with hands and arms, bend, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to noise; there may be sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.

Required Education and Experience  The minimum age qualification required by the Apprenticeship Committee, Sponsor, or Participating Employer for persons entering the Apprenticeship Program is: 18 years.  Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the occupation, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others. Applicants will provide: Sanitas Medical Center Physical Statement/Demands. Applicants must be able to comprehend the English language in order to understand and follow instructions on the job, in related training classes, and to ensure personal and co-worker safety on the job. A high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) equivalency or other high school equivalency credential is required. Applicants must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and any post–high school education. Applicants must submit the GED certificate or other high school equivalency credential if applicable.
