Summary :The Clinical Coordinator, School of Radiology coordinates clinical activities and instructs students in the radiologic technology program. Performs didactic and clinical instruction to achieve an established standard of medical care in radiologic sciences. Exercises professional judgment in performance of duties, and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Instructs and evaluates appropriate patient care and conditions essential for successful completion of a procedure.Job Description:KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Coordinates and directly or indirectly supervises student performance in the clinical education setting:
Must be able to demonstrate and educate students on the working knowledge of equipment and safety practices in the areas of main department, interventional radiology, surgery, emergency department, and outpatient surgery.
Must be able to demonstrate and educate students on knowledge and skills needed to perform all radiology procedures per protocol and adjusts techniques according to patient needs, i.e., critical or emergency. Consults with providers as needed.
Provides practical instruction for students and other health care professionals.
Must be able to demonstrate and educate students on how to apply critical thinking skills and ensures order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients.
Must be able to demonstrate and educate students on how to complete documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy or procedure including proper image management and accurate documentation in electronic medical record.
Must be able to demonstrate and educate students on how to practice safety at all times, which includes adhering to ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles for proper radiation safety for team members and patients using mobilization and immobilization devices, following safe patient handling practices, following infection prevention practices (proper personal protective equipment), and following hand hygiene to comply with government agencies or other regulatory bodies.
In collaboration with the Program Director School of Radiology, coordinates student clinical education at the participating and approved sites.
Develops, maintains, and administers master clinical education plan and handbook to students.
Develops student objectives and evaluation tools for effective use in clinical education.
Develops, coordinates, and administers master clinical schedule.
Performs competency-based clinical evaluations on students. 7. Develops and instructs specific units of didactic education.
Participates in the student selection process.
Ensures compliance of The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Holds at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in radiology, education, science, or related field
Two years of clinical experience greater than or equal to a Radiology technologist II (job profile 3414)
Proficient in course development, instruction, evaluation and academic advising
One years’ experience as an instructor in a JRCERT Accredited Program
Holds current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and registration or equivalent in radiography.
Holds current Wisconsin license in radiography.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normally works in climate-controlled office environment.
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
Occasional high noise level in work environment.
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
