Position Summary:
The Medical Imaging RN Coordinator, manages, directs, and oversees the Medical Imaging Interventional Radiology Nursing Team. He/She is responsible for policy development and oversight, as well as coordinating the daily activities of the Nursing Team. Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Imaging Services Department. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring and symptomatology. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care needs that are unique for patients undergoing specialized interventional procedures within Medical Imaging. Directly assists Interventional Radiologist in the performance of invasive/interventional procedures that are performed in various modalities of Medical Imaging. Demonstrates that he/she can respond quickly and accurately to changes in the patient's condition. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments. Participates in performance improvement and QAPI activities.
Essential Duties:
+ Coordinates the care of patients while in the Imaging Department to ensure their needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
+ Participates in Time-Out process to ensure proper patient, proper procedure, and proper site, etc.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
+ Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
+ Monitors hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interprets the results.
+ Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and the general patient population.
+ Demonstrates ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
+ Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety, radiation safety/protection, and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
+ Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to a radiographic procedure and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness.
+ Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of fluid and electrolyte management.
+ Demonstrates the ability to be multi-tasked, flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
+ Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and management.
+ Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care and performance improvement activities.
+ Treats patients, family and staff with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
+ Acts as a resource person for nursing staff and physicians of the facility.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
+ Coordinates and schedules patient procedures in the Imaging Services Department; ensures outpatients receive pre and post-procedure instructions.
+ Operates and maintains equipment correctly and safely.
+ Maintains regulatory requirements, including all State, Federal and Joint Commission regulations.
+ Trains personnel, utilizing on-the-job training for nursing and other hospital staff, as well as department staff.
+ Performs management activities including coordinating and scheduling nursing coverage, purchasing supplies, developing and maintaining any required QC logs or data, and manages annual/semi-annual performance evaluations.
+ Responsible for timecard verification and approve when necessary. Ensures that time and attendance policies are followed.
+ Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
+ Documentation meets current standards and policies.
+ Perform additional tasks as assigned.
+ Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
Education and experience:
+ Current State of Maine Registered Nurse Licensure
+ Two or more years of recent critical care experience
+ Certification in Radiology Nursing preferred
+ Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS and BLS certification required. Due within one month of expiration.
+ Bachelor degree preferred.
+ Trained and competent in moderate/conscious sedation
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
+ Additional languages preferred.
+ Basic computer knowledge.
+ Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards
