Clinical Development Senior Manager, HEALTH & WELLBEING

Background & Purpose of the Job 
 

We are the Global Health & Wellbeing (H&W) team at Unilever. We are focused on one of Unilever’s largest growth opportunities – the €140bn Health & Wellbeing space defined by Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements (VMS).

Unilever’s Health & Wellbeing Group holds the company’s functional nutrition brands and the portfolio of brands that includes Equilibra (Italy) and US acquired brands Olly, Liquid IV, Smarty Pants, Welly, Onnit, and Nutrafol. Each brand is completely unique and focused on giving consumers superior experiences within their respective spaces and target segments. We are committed to continue grow this strategic business for Unilever through a series of acquisitions and international expansion of acquired brands through Unilever’s scale and network in the markets. 

 

Who You Are & What You’ll Do 
 
The Clinical Development Senior Manager (CDM) will play a critical role in the Nutritional Sciences and Innovation team.  The CDM will be responsible to partner with internal project teams and external suppliers to create fit for purpose approaches to the design, development and execution of clinical studies and the management, analysis interpretation of the data generated from the studies.  The CDM will utilize the results to enable data-based decision- making insight generation and claims substantiation to innovation projects.  The CDM will provide subject matter expertise in dietary supplements for key benefit areas of energy, immunity, digestive health, women’s health, hydration and sugar reduction across different innovation activities. 

 

The role reports to the Global Director, Nutritional Sciences and Innovation, Health & Wellbeing and will interface with the Global and Regional R&D teams. 

The role requires the ability to work within a small agile core team and influence a matrix organization.  Strong people and networking skills and a true passion for innovation also required. 
 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Lead  

Lead and manage all platform-led Clinical Trials Development activities within The Collective 

KOL Mapping for key scientific areas of interest including innovative clinical trial design 

Generate evidence development plans for claims substantiation  

Organization of the Clinical Sciences Forum 

Data Management and Statistics thought leadership 

Establish Data Transfer Process for all studies in the Collective 

Develops scientific positions and viewpoints relevant to the business  

Anticipates and manages potential business issues by predicting and responding to external scientific developments in the field 

 

 Support  (within the broader NS&I team) 

Identify and share emerging clinical research for the key benefit areas: hydration, sleep, beauty from within, cognitive function and mood, women’s health & nutrition science  

Support front end innovation activities including but not limited to workshops, prototyping and claimstorming  

Partner with platform technology for helping translation of science to clinically meaningful endpoints 

Partner with Nutritional Sciences to support ingredient evaluations 

Support the broader R&D teams with additional clinical research requirements Develop an external scientific engagement strategy including conferences, symposiums & publications to demonstrate Unilever’s leadership in this discipline 

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed 

Master’s degree required (PhD, MD, or PhD/MD preferred) in nutrition science, dietetics, biology, life sciences or similar discipline. 

5+ years industry experience in a healthcare, consumer goods, food or pharmaceutical company in clinical research 

Evidence of a robust publication record 

Broad knowledge of Nutrition and Health Science across multiple therapeutic areas including but not limited to hydration, sleep, beauty from within, cognitive function and mood and women’s health. 

Ability to recognize significance of unusual test results and how they lead to new clinical insights and technical opportunities; ability to interpret data and communicate significance of what it means to others 

Provides technical recommendations and initiates problem solving, brings in individuals from cross-functional areas to share expertise to solve a problem 

Able to quickly assess and identify potential regulatory, safety or ethical concerns and determine ways forward. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present information in a clear and concise manner to senior management  

Networking and stakeholder management   

Attention to detail, excellent organization and time management skills. 

Ability to think flexibly in order to meet constantly shifting priorities and timelines and to independently provide solutions to issues. 

Problem-solving, troubleshooting skills and ability to find creative solutions 

Ability to work successfully in a ‘team-based’ matrix environment 

Ability to manage external collaborations and projects

Pay: The pay range for this position is $113,400 to $170,200. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
