Position Summary
Responsible for implementing the Nutrition element of the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for reversing Heart Disease. Oversees the food service and monitors the nutritional adequacy of each participant. Actively participates in the interdisciplinary team process.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Implementation of Nutrition element of the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease.
2. Food Service Preparation following the Ornish Program protocols and guidelines.
3. Participates in interdisciplinary team and transdisciplinary development
4. Professional Development.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
Certificate and/or Advanced Specialized or Technical Training, Registration or Registration Eligible
Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition or related field
Preferred:
Masters preferred.
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):
Required:
One to three years of clinical experience in a hospital setting
Preferred:
Experience in counseling and coaching individuals in making lifestyle changes supportive comprehensive dietary changes.
Experience in meal planning, preparation, cooking and shopping prescribed by low fat vegetarian nutrition guidelines.
Health coaching experience.
Research experience
License, Registry or Certification:
Required:
Registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or CDR
NJ License
Preferred:
Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Knowledgeable about research and the role of dietary factors in heart disease, and exhibits an ability to explain these concepts clearly to participants.
Excellent public speaking skills and knowledge of adult education and coaching principles.
Excellent with computers, computerized charting, kitchen function and equipment, excellent communication and critical thinking skills, excellent leadership and organizational skills.
American Heart Association BCLS certification.
