MH: Clinical Nutrition- (Full Time, Varied Shift)-
Job Summary: The Clinical Dietitian completes inpatient and outpatient nutritional assessments and reassessments according to scheduled timeframes, as well as implementing appropriate interventions to improve the nutritional outcome of patients requiring a specialized program. Provides nutrition education to patients and family members, mentoring diet technicians, and acting as a clinical preceptor and educator to dietetic students and other health care team members. Provides in-services to clinical staff and serves as a nutrition knowledge base for interns, residents, and attending physicians. Must be available to work weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Graduate of accredited school with Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics including successful completion of clinical practicum experience required. Master's Degree preferred. Minimum 3 years general clinical registered dietitian (RD) experience in an acute-care setting required.
Knowledge and Skills: Broad knowledge base of clinical nutrition in an acute-care setting. Handling/gripping, speed movements, fine dexterity skills are necessary for this position. Able to effectively operate a calculator, computer, pager, copy machine and telephone. Must be able to communicate effectively with others, collaborate and accept direction. Able to work calmly and courteously under pressure, display a positive and professional demeanor to patients, visitors, and co-workers, and be able to consistently enforce Medical Center policies. Able to organize and prioritize workload and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must be detail-oriented, possess reasoning and problem-solving skills, and mathematical skills. Able to competently read, write and speak English. Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable. Ability to problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Current Registered Dietitian (RD) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. Current advanced credential in one of the following specialty areas: CNSC, CDE, CSP, CSR.
