General Description:
Clinical Instructors responsibilities include the supervision and evaluation of clinical lab and/or patient care experiences as assigned by Director of Clinical Education
Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:
• Evaluate cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills of students. • Direct students to clinical situations, which would provide students with opportunities to meet goals and objectives, increase skills and pass competency evaluations. • Supervise student’s skill practice and clinical patient care. • Ensure accurate and safe skill performance by students; correct and remediate as appropriate. • Maintain a safe practice environment. • Complete assigned competency rating forms and review with students. • Utilize evidence-based principles of current respiratory practice for clinical experience. • Adhere to professional standards and legal guidelines of practice. • Consult with the Director of Clinical Education regarding observed student behavior, attitude, and skills that are unacceptable such as: o Content or skill weakness in a given area. o Behavior or attitude problems which, in the opinion of the clinical instructor, is counter-productive to Respiratory Care and patients o Lack of technical competence. • Be a role model demonstrating responsible and professional Respiratory Therapist behavior. • Attends scheduled department staff meetings. • Participate in on-going training as assigned by Director of Clinical Education to ensure inter-rater reliability • Document student progress and competency using the Trajecsys® Clinical Management Tracking software; maintain privacy of all passwords and student information· Participate in semester end clinical and laboratory proficiency testing. Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
An Associate in Science degree or Respiratory Care is required or an Associate’s degree with the general education requirements needed to become a Respiratory Therapist. Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist ( RRT ) credential and current active Respiratory Care Practitioner ( RCP ) license as required by the state of New Jersey is required. Member of AARC is a plus.
Experience:
• Minimum of three years clinical respiratory experience required. • Teaching experience is preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• This position’s duties are normally performed in a medical facility, acute care hospital or other healthcare setting based on the activity/competency scheduled. • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. • Ability to stand and/ or walk for an extended period in a clinical patient care setting. Some travel required.
