Essential Functions 

Manage the receipt and storage surgical pathology cases including:

Receiving and accessioning of Surgical Pathology specimens. Enter orders into LIS system (PowerPath) with utmost accuracy.  Contributes to monthly Quality Assurance to be maintained for the department.  Accurately match and label specimen container with requisition for surgical number.  Accurately correlate cassettes with surgical number.  Maintain specimen deficiencies in LIS (PowerPath).

Additional duties & Responsibilities 

Perform assigned duties accurately, efficiently and effectively in a timely manner. Actively seek out other assignments when daily tasks are completed.  Respond to telephone calls for specimen resolution, troubleshooting, etc.  Contact physician’s offices or nursing staff for additional info concerning incomplete requisitions.  Complete paperwork for Quality Assurance.  Maintain temperature charts in accessioning and Gross Room areas.  Monitor and stock respective areas with supplies such as gloves, cassettes, etc. Stores away completed surgical specimens appropriately according to department policy Dispose of surgical specimens according to department policy Handling of formaldehyde waste Other tasks as assigned by Management
