Job Title: Blood Bank Supervisor
Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Blood Bank Supervisor to assist the Laboratory Manager with the day-to-day operations of the blood bank, including human resource management and customer service. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the BB Medical Director, physicians, patient care staff, reference labs, and other business partners to optimize blood banking practices while maintaining accreditation and licensure.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop and mentor technical staff, setting personnel goals and service standards to maintain high morale and motivation within the Blood Bank.Maintain training files for staff members and conduct training and competency evaluations.Coordinate and work alongside technical staff to ensure procedures are performed according to SOPs with the highest standards of quality.Review Antibody Identification Workups, Transfusion Reaction Workups, ABO Discrepancy Workups, and result exception reports.Supervise the performance of tests in the assigned section, ensuring staff are trained and complete technical training checklists.Review daily test performance, initiate corrective actions as needed, and communicate results to relevant directors.Ensure technical procedures are written and reviewed according to regulatory guidelines.Establish and monitor quality control procedures, initiate corrective actions, and maintain documentation for regulatory inspections.Participate in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities for service enhancement.Recruit, train, evaluate, and counsel section employees, ensuring staff competency and participation in continuing education programs.Schedule section employees to ensure appropriate coverage, avoid overtime, and rotate staff to maintain competency.Select, implement, and maintain technical equipment, justifying capital equipment purchases and evaluating cost-benefit alternatives.Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and ensure the section's readiness for inspections, correcting any compliance failures.Maintain section supply inventory and handle hazardous materials using appropriate PPE, ensuring safety procedures are followed.Essential SkillsBachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) or equivalent, such as the HHS examination or CLIA qualifications for Moderate complexity laboratory testing.Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a blood bank setting within a hospital.Multiple years of leadership experience in a clinical laboratory.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working with one of the best children's hospitals.Ability to grow and impact the lives of patients.Work Environment

This position requires adherence to all laboratory and hospital safety policies, including chemical safety and infection control. The role involves handling hazardous materials using appropriate PPE such as disposable gloves, laboratory coats, shields, and goggles. The work environment is fast-paced and requires maintaining regulatory compliance and readiness for inspections. The Blood Bank Supervisor will work collaboratively with a diverse team to provide timely, accurate, and cost-efficient services.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $84000.00 - $127000.00
