Job Title: Blood Bank Supervisor
Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Blood Bank Supervisor to assist with the day-to-day operations of the blood bank, including human resource management and customer service areas. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the BB Medical Director, physicians, patient care staff, reference labs, and other business partners to optimize Blood Banking practices while maintaining accreditation and licensure.

ResponsibilitiesAssist the Laboratory Manager with daily operations and human resource management.Develop, coach, and mentor technical staff, setting personnel goals, tasks, and service standards.Maintain training files and conduct training and competency evaluations for Blood Bank staff.Coordinate and work alongside technical staff, ensuring procedures are performed according to SOPs and quality standards.Review Antibody Identification Workups, Transfusion Reaction Workups, ABO Discrepancy Workups, and result exception reports.Supervise staff performing tests, ensuring correct performance and completion of technical training checklists.Review daily test performance and reports, initiate corrective actions, and communicate results to appropriate parties.Write and review technical procedures following established guidelines and regulatory standards.Establish and monitor quality control procedures, initiate corrective actions, and maintain documentation for regulatory inspections.Participate in Quality Assessment and Improvement programs, identifying opportunities for service improvement.Recruit, hire, and promote staff, ensuring fair evaluation and competency reviews.Schedule section employees, ensuring appropriate coverage and avoiding overtime where possible.Select, implement, and maintain technical equipment, evaluating cost-benefit alternatives.Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and ensure section readiness for inspections.Manage section supply inventory and address related issues.Follow and enforce laboratory and hospital safety policies, handle hazardous materials appropriately, and report safety concerns.Essential SkillsBachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) or equivalent.Minimum of five years of blood bank experience in a hospital setting.Multiple years of leadership experience in a clinical laboratory.Experience working with regulatory guidelines and maintaining accreditation and licensure.Ability to develop, coach, and mentor technical staff.Additional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of three to five years of experience required.Experience working with one of the best children's hospitals is a plus.Familiarity with CLIA qualifications for Moderate complexity laboratory testing.Work Environment

The work environment includes working in a clinical laboratory setting with exposure to various hazardous materials, including chemicals and pathogenic organisms. The candidate must follow all safety policies and use personal protective equipment such as disposable gloves, laboratory coats, shields, and goggles. The role involves ensuring that the laboratory maintains appropriate documentation and readiness for regulatory inspections. The position requires rotating staff to maintain competency and scheduling employees to ensure uninterrupted laboratory services.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $84000.00 - $127000.00/yr.
