GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Intake Manager and VP of Business Development; clinically assesses patients referred to RML Specialty Hospital (RML) at referring hospital sites. Determines clinical appropriateness of referred patients, acts as liaison between insurance companies and referring facilities. Communicates to the nursing, respiratory, and medical staff to insure a smooth admission process. Assists in the implantation of the marketing plan.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accepts initial inquiries from referring facilities, gathering patient referral information, and discusses pertinent medical and financial issues with appropriate RML staff.Interacts closely with RML’s Admitting Department to determine any financial challenges of referred patients. Acts as a clinical resource to the Patient Accounts Department regarding issues of patient diagnosis, medical needs, cost of treatment, cost-effective care, and contract/per diem negotiations. Insures that negotiated agreements are intact upon the patient’s admission.Clinically assesses the referred patient to insure appropriateness for the Respiratory, Medically Complex or Wound Care Program. In addition to clinical criteria, the patient’s age appropriateness must be factored into this decision. Responsible to communicate to the RML staff all the needs of potential patients. Clinical Liaisons are assigned hospitals by territory. Acts as a pre-admission tour leader for referred patient families in an effort to educate them about the RML mission and multi-disciplinary approach, explaining the clinical on-site assessment, treatment plan and insurance benefit information for each particular patient.Pre-certifies potential patients with pre-admission requirements, which are stipulated by the individual’s insurance policy (Internal Staff). Assists the Admitting Department with the smooth transfer and admission of new patients.Provides timely and courteous follow-up to the referral source as to patient status.Responsible for census development through external marketing and relationship building.Identifies new products/services in the market place. Maintains weekly communication with the Intake Manager and V.P. of Business Development through Sales ReportsExemplifies the RML Language of Caring culture by demonstrating respect, excellence, appreciation, concern and honor in all interactions with patients, families and co-workers, and as identified in departmental and hospital wide behavioral expectationsJOB REQUIREMENTS & CHARACTERISTICS
Excellent clinical assessment skills and the ability to interpret age-appropriate needs and analyze patient-related data independently
Ability to contribute to multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals
Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time independently
Microsoft experience
Prior experience as a Field Liaison is a plus
Knowledge & Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with RN or LPN degree with at least 2 years of clinical experience
Must have active state of Illinois license.
Insurance precertification experience is a plus
Knowledge about the LTCH level of care
Strong clinical background, with Insurance and Marketing experience a plus
Minimum of two-years experience in marketing/intake at a LTACH a plus
Prior ICU experience is a plus
License & Certifications
Must have active state of Illinois license, RN or LPN
Valid driver’s license.
Local travel in the city and suburbs to referring hospitals for the purpose of on-site clinical evaluations is necessary.
Work may be performed in an office or hospital environment
