Job Summary:

In accordance with the Purpose, Vision, Values and Coast Salish Teachings, and strategic direction of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Senior Leader and/or designate, the Clinical Librarian provides library information and literature search services to designated groups throughout PHSA and contributes to the planning and development of PHSA’s Library Service and its short and long-range goals and objectives.  The Clinical Librarian evaluates library resources, consults on research methods, citation management and online search, and provides recommendations.  Establishes and maintains liaison with the PHSA library network, programs and leadership to promote and develop knowledge-based services.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1.    Provides general reference and in-depth information and literature search services for clinical teams and other leadership and administrative groups across PHSA in support of research, clinical practice, governance, teaching and publishing.

2.    Evaluates library resources with respect to client needs by maintaining and analyzing service and resource usage statistics, reviewing feedback to determine opportunities for improvement and making materials recommendations and/or selection decisions.  

3.    Participates in the planning and development of the PHSA Library Services and its short and long-range goals and objectives to ensure that the library supports the larger goals, policies and strategic vision of the health authority as well as program-specific needs.

4.    Consults on research methods, citation management and online searching and recommends clinical resources and information to programs/professional initiatives to support evidence-based practice. Collaborates on, or leads where appropriate, in relevant research or information projects.

5.    Develops and delivers formal and informal education on the research process and evidence access, searching, evaluation and use through instructional workshops, print and online materials, and via multimedia Learning Hub courses for remote learning.

6.    Develops and delivers in-person, print and web-based communications, marketing and awareness activities to promote the PHSA Library and information services to staff.

7.    Develops, evaluates and maintains new and existing print and electronic library resources – including intranet and web content - ensuring currency, relevancy and completeness, and consulting with other departments regarding information and educational resource needs.

8.    Performs and manages the acquisition and distribution of print and electronic library collections, including the maintenance of vendor accounts and troubleshooting connectivity and user/technical issues.

9.    Liaises with the PHSA library network, programs and leadership to promote and develop knowledge-based services, collections and technologies, and encourages collaboration and sharing across the organization.

10.    Participates in professional activities and maintains current knowledge of developments, technologies, and trends in library and information science.

11.    Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience

•    Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited Library School, three (3) year’s experience in a health-related library and/or a subject background in a health-related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
