Clinical Nurse, Outpatient - General Oncology - LBJ Hospital

KEY FUNCTIONS

Facilitates the entry of patients into the cancer program and serve as the point of contact for primary care physicians and referring providers.

Initiates and documents patient teaching.

Performs telephone triage.

Follow up on recommendations from Harris Health System's Ask My Nurse service.

Implements risk assessments and healthcare pathways for cancer patients.

Works closely with interdisciplinary team to coordinate and maintain patient care plans.

Develops collaborative relationships with all physicians in the MD Anderson Oncology Program at LBJ and serves as a liaison between the oncologists and patient's referring provider.

Provides access to community resources and links patients to support services.

Assists with tracking of metrics and quality indicators.

Serves as liaison between community personnel and interdisciplinary team at LBJ Hospital.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required:

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

Minimum 2 years of RN experience.

Oncology-focused clinical and triage experience.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required:

Current State of Texas professional nursing license (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).
