Clinical Nurse Leader Fellow
Full-time, 40 hours p/week -Surgical ICU
Clinical Nurse Leaders (CNLs) at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) are certified nurses with Master's degrees. They are leaders who serve as clinical experts, with a focus on coordinating care, measuring outcomes, managing transitions of care, fostering interprofessional communication and team leadership, conducting risk assessments, implementing evidence-based best practices, and driving quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
To support clinical areas without CNLs, DHMC is launching a CNL fellowship program. The fellowship program will facilitate the transition of BSN-prepared Registered Nurses to the CNL role and empower CNL fellows to begin to support patient care, develop and implement the use of practice standards, and meet the needs of the microsystem with evidence-based practice and research. Qualified candidates will immediately start working under mentorship while attending the graduate CNL program at Colby-Sawyer College.
To improve the quality of patient care outcomes while mentored by CNLs and Lean Six Sigma Black Belts and attend a graduate CNL program. Ensures coordination of patient care through the development and use of practice standards. Serves as a clinical expert providing analytical support to nursing leadership to plan and predict patient care needs based on quality benchmarking, research, and evidenced based practice.
Responsibilities
* Performs tasks listed below mentored by a certified CNL and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
* Designs, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care for assigned units(s) to ensure optimal patient outcome. Performs or oversees the collection of holistic assessments.
* Collaborates with unit leadership to create an environment that facilitates and improves patient care delivery.
* Synthesizes data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and achieve optimal patient outcomes
* Provides leadership in the educational needs of patients and families and develops the clinical expertise of staff. Provides formal and informal educational opportunities on the unit to improve clinical skills of all staff.
* Recommends specific programming to build clinical skill set of staff. Provides input and feedback to Manager related to evaluation and competency of staff.
* Patriciates in staff meetings, huddles, and other department meetings.
* Complete graduate CL program up to and including certification.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* An eligible candidate must have at least three years nursing experience.
* The candidate must have a written recommendation from their current manager.
* A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
* The candidate must be accepted into a qualified CNL graduate program before their fellowship start date.
* Preferred experience includes, but may not be limited to:
* Performance improvement/Quality improvement committees and or projects
* Participation in shared governance/local practice council
* Safety champion participation
* Experience with implementing unit initiatives
* Preceptor experience
* Leadership experience (supervisor, charge RN)
* Preferred education/certifications include, but are not limited to:
* Yellow or Green Belt training/certification
* Specialty certifications
* Quality or safety certifications
Required Licensure/Certifications
