The Medical Transplant ICU (MTICU) provides critical care for complex medical and surgical patients. Nurses provide intensive care for patients before or after they receive liver, kidney, or pancreas transplants. Having an ICU dedicated to transplant patients allows for continuity of care and optimizes standards of care, resulting in improved outcomes. Nurses also provide care for complex patients with medical conditions such as acute liver failure, respiratory failure, severe sepsis, and pulmonary hypertension, and post-surgical patients following hepato-biliary surgeries. Nurses are trained in advanced therapies such as Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS). Here, nurses utilize expert clinical skills, critical thinking, and teamwork to provide exceptional care to critically ill patients.

The Clinical Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment and accurate documentation, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation for the comfort and well-being of patients. Carries out a plan of care specific to unit competencies for the target patient population. Coordinates care delivery and education through collaboration with patient, family and all health care team providers to ensure safe, effective and quality patient care. Follows organizational policies in providing safe patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.

We are currently hiring for a Clinical Nurse (Registered Nurse) on our  Medical Transplant Intensive Care Unit. 

Only Night Shift Available

Medical Transplant Intensive Care  

Here, nurses provide intensive care for patients before or after they receive liver, kidney, or pancreas transplants.  Having an intensive care unit dedicated to transplant patients allows for continuity of care and optimizes standards of care, resulting in improved patient outcomes.  Intensive care services are also available for blood and marrow transplant patients as well as immune cell therapies.  In addition, nurses on this unit manage a wide variety of conditions requiring critical care including liver failure, renal failure, pulmonary hypertension(PH), respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, and surgical patients following hepatobiliary surgery that require intensive monitoring. Nurses provide advanced therapies including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System. Additionally, nurses from the MTICU are part of our hospitals’ Rapid Response and Code Blue team. This broad range of patient conditions and therapies continually challenges our staff to expand their nursing skills as they expertly manage complex patient conditions.

Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Graduate Associate Degree Nursing For ADN prepared nurses hired after February 24, 2017, must complete BSN degree by the fifth anniversary of employment as an RN with UKHA 6 months to 2 years' experience as a Clinical Nurse
Preferred Education and ExperienceBachelor Degree Nursing
Required Licensure and CertificationLicensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing (Kansas) or compact license Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
