**Position Summary:** A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a Masters prepared Advanced Practice Registered Nurse whose function is to improve outcomes in patient care within the three spheres of practice: patient care, nursing, and systems. The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist is a clinical expert in pediatric nursing who, in addition to providing direct care, serves as a leader in education, research, quality improvement, outcome monitoring and consultation with other health care providers. This position is in the BMT, Blood and Marrow Transplant unit. The CNS utilizes a theory-based practice to provide and/or direct the clinical case management for a specialty pediatric population. The CNS functioning within the area of expertise works in collaboration with, and is an integral member, of a multidisciplinary health care team. The CNS has a strong foundation in providing an environment of safe quality care. The CNS demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for managing professional development and competency validation. The CNS has responsibility for the quality of standards of nursing care for a specific patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the organization. **Position Requirements:** **Minimum Education:** Master's Degree in nursing **Minimum Experience:** 3 years pediatric nursing experience required. Intensive care experience preferred (PICU specific). Specialized educational preparation and or extensive clinical experience in specialty area. **Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:** Maintains current knowledge and competence in the area of specialization and in professional practice through review and critique of the literature, attendance at conferences and continuing education programs, and maintenance of active membership in local and national organizations. Skill level is current to enable employee to provide direct nursing care during periods of census fluctuation or other staffing emergencies. Progressive, flexible, team oriented. Demonstrates the knowledge of neonatal, infant, child and adolescent growth and development principles and applies these principles when caring for patients and families. Is able to modify plan of care based on assessment and interpretation of a client's growth and development. Experience with quality improvement systems, such as Lean, preferred. **Technical Knowledge:** Competence with computer systems and adequate skills for EMR use required. Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) **Required Licenses and Certification:** Active California Registered Nurse license required. Clinical nurse specialist certification or equivalent per BRN, Chapter 6, Article 9: Clinical Nurse Specialist section 2838-2838.4. Current American Heart Association CPR certification (BLS). Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life support (PALS) **Physical Requirements:** Sit: Up to 6 hours per day Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours per day Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours per day Reach: Up to 6 hours per day Repetitive Use of Upper Extremities: Up to 6 hours per day Lift/Push/Pull : 25 pounds, over 25 pounds with assistance or equipment This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instruction.
