The Clinical Nutrition Manager provides leadership, management, and monitoring of all clinical aspects of the department's programs and nutrition services, including clinical competency of nutrition programs, patient safety, compliance with California Board of regulations, and quality improvement. The clinical nutrition manager oversees the clinical content development, updating, and maintenance of collaborative practice agreements, protocols, and training of existing and new food therapy management programs. In addition, the clinical nutrition manager is responsible for coordinating and directing all activities of the nutrition staff in the provision of safe, cost-effective and clinically appropriate medication and nutrition therapies.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
Provides leadership and support in the maintenance of nutrition services to ensure clinical services meet the requirements and needs of the physicians and patient population. Assures compliance with MDRH programs policies and procedures.
Assesses daily schedules of staff to ensure efficiency, access and department needs are met, oversight for colleague time away, overtime work, and policies/procedures are followed.
Supports clinical, quality and financial initiatives through the provision of nutrition services in programs promoting cost-effective, clinically appropriate, high-quality care, patient satisfaction.
Establishes goals for the department and develops tactics to meet those goals, in collaboration with the Executive Director. Leads process improvement and quality initiatives and evaluate operational efficiency and efficacy data for Nutrition Services. Revises strategies as changes in condition/response occur.
Provides drug information and education to healthcare providers, staff, and patients/caregivers, including Drug Safety Alerting to physicians, other departments, patients.
Identifies need for and implements comprehensive assessment consistent with policy; directs the nutritional assessment process in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team.
Collects pertinent data and interprets appropriately.
Collaborates with patient/family/significant other where appropriate in the assessment process; facilitates their active participation in establishing nutrition related goals and objectives. Evaluates the patient’s nutritional related education needs; provides education and documents as appropriate in the medical record.
Documents various systems (VST, MR, WEB/VS), makes for good follow-up care by other staff (next RD/DTR to follow).
Keeps updated on and uses evidence based practice guidelines/measures for appropriate value(s) for control or improvement of the disease or conditions as defined and supported in the literature.
Determines patient centered outcomes that are clear, concise, observable and measurable, during the initial assessment and on follow up and documents consistently in the plan of care; oversees and mentors staff in this regard giving constructive and timely feedback when warranted. Responds promptly to the patient’s need for education, need for change in orders, or any other circumstance that requires change for demonstration of the best outcome. Refers patients to appropriate resources in the community as needed.
Collaborates with other colleagues and health care professionals in expediting orders that lead to the best practice outcomes for the individual patient, this includes attendance at patient care conferences, rounds, etc. where care can be discussed and orders quickly obtained for required changes.
Plans, develops facilitates and evaluates clinical nutrition care within the section. Performs audits and utilizes operational data to improve efficiency and quality of medical nutrition therapy.
Collaborate with culinary team to develop and maintain patient menus that adhere to regulatory compliance and ensure patient satisfaction.
Oversight on software optimization.
Support and education for diet clerks and culinary team.
Maintain open dialog with kitchen and clinical team.
Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree, minimum.
Master's Degree, preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, required.
Certification such as CNSD, CSP, CDE, preferred.
Membership in the American Dietetic Association, preferred.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in clinical nutrition, minimum.
Management/supervisor experience, highly desired
