Clinical Oncology/Hematology Manager
*Description* *Clinical Oncology/Hematology Manager* *Full-time, 40 hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, variable* *Summary:* This position is responsible for the overall clinical operations for the WCMG Oncology/Hematology practice and ensures high quality, safe care is delivered for this high risk and complex patient population. Is a key contributor to performance improvement programs to enhance and sustain Cerner as it relates to oncology and power plans functionality *Responsibilities:* * Directly manages the clinical oncology staff. Select, train, develop, evaluate & discipline employees. * Functions in the role of Informatics Nurse specialized in Oncology having multiple roles as a guide, educator, designer and advocate. * Key contributor to performance improvement programs to enhance and sustain Cerner as it relates to oncology and power plans functionality.Provides support, troubleshoots and assists in correcting problems by performing root cause analysis and assists others to resolve system and application problems at DH, NM, NH infusion and Chemotherapy Infusion Suites and inpatient oncology floor. * Functions as a verification RN for review of chemotherapy orders. Review chemotherapy orders for completeness and accuracy, including correct dose, route, frequency, and duration of treatment. If a discrepancy is identifiedwill work with the prescriber to correct. Clarifies care plan changes with the provider and informs pharmacy and nursing staff. * Responsible for the technical aspect of the WCMG Danbury Oncology Sysmex Hematology analyzer under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director. Maintains the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification per the Code of Federal Regulations and Medicare Claims processing manual in order to receive reimbursement from Federal programs. • Participation in HHS approved proficiency testing program * Enforces the established Quality control program and ensures that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from initial receipt of the specimen through sample analysis and reporting of test results. * Resolves technical problems and ensures remedial actions are taken when the system deviates from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. * Identifies training needs and assures that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education for moderately complexity testing. * Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel and assures that staff maintains their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently. * Provide direct care to the oncology patient (phlebotomies, central line maintenance. assist MD's within office procedures) and educate patients and families regarding the plan of care and chemotherapy treatments. * Expert resource for inpatient and outpatient staff (physicians, RN's) and community providers for high acuity and complex cases to ensure care is coordinated and all needs of the oncology/hematology patient and their families are met. * Oversees clinical billing and ensures billing requirements are met (ICD, CPT, DX) and provides education to providers and clinical staff to ensure all compliance requirements are met. * Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. * Performs other duties as assigned. *Requirements:* * Bachelor Degree and minimum 7 years oncology experience. * State of CT Registered Nurse Current certification from ONS for Chemotherapy/ Immunotherapy Provider. * Coursework in Strategic Leadership and management Skills * BLS certification.
