The Manager of Clinical Pharmacy conducts, organizes and supervises the pharmacy department's clinical duties and programs, as well as designs, implements and evaluates specific programs. Responsible for the overall planning and coordination of the Pharmacy Clinical Operations to include the training and supervision of all personnel involved in clinical pharmacy activities. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to assist with problem identification and resolution, cost containment issues, implementation of new clinical programs and protocols, and systems/ performance measures including attending committee meetings.
GENERAL DUTIES
Clinical Program Oversight:
Manages the clinical pharmacy program including developing, monitoring, evaluating and coordinating clinical pharmacy services that promote desirable patient outcomes.Plans and develops new clinical services in area of responsibility with consideration to age specific needs of the patients treated.Quality Improvement:
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to identify and select data for analysis, improve existing processes, and create new processes with the goal of enhancing the overall quality of the patient care.Medication Use Evaluation:
Evaluates current medication use processes and implements strategies to minimize patient risk.Commits to systematically evaluating the medication use systems to improve patient safety and outcomes.Workforce Management:
Oversees and coordinates the work of clinical pharmacists and/or support staff. Provides leadership and direction to assure a systematic approach to pharmacy talent management and succession planning.Ensures effective and timely staff recruitment, orientation, training, education, mentoring, career development, performance review, and retention efforts.Formulary management:
Oversees formulary management, protocol development, policies, procedures, medication evaluation and the standardization of medical care for the department including peer review of pharmacy dosing protocols.Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance:
Ensures continued compliance with regulatory compliance (national, state and local) and accreditations pertaining to medication use.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and 3 years relevant work experience or 5 years of experience as a pharmacist in an Acute Care Hospital Pharmacy setting.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Licensed as a Pharmacist by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. American Heart Association, BLS HCP.
