JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Professional Development Practitioner is a registered nurse responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing educational activities to promote individual development and competency among nursing department team members. The CPDP fulfills the roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, partner for practice transition, and advocate for the nursing professional development specialty. Providing clinical and educational expertise, the CPDP designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs in alignment with organizational needs and vision.
All members of the Professional Development team are expected to maintain, role model, and enforce exemplary practice in accordance with the Nursing Professional Development: Scope and Standards and the UVA Community Health ASPIRE behavioral standards.
This position supports all of Community Health, with alignment to (a) designated to specialty area(s). This position will support Critical Care areas.

Collaborates with organizational and nursing leaders in assigned area to identify or validate specific knowledge, skill, or practice gaps related to clinical and professional practice and develop strategies to address identified learning needs. Develops learning outcomes based on identified learning gaps, which align with the needs, and goals of the stakeholders and leaders. Utilizes best practice standards including adult learning principles in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities to facilitate achievement of desired learning outcomes. Evaluates the impact of programming on learners, organizational resources, and patient outcomes and makes adjustments in collaboration with nursing leaders in the assigned area. Respects diversity by considering cultural, ethnic, generational and other differences in educational planning and incorporating inclusive educational design to meet learner needs.Competency Management
Collaborates with key stakeholders, including leaders and Onboarding Professional Development Practitioners/Specialists in the assigned area to develop specialty specific competencies to be assessed during specialty orientation in clinical areas. Collaborates with key stakeholders and leaders within the assigned area to develop specialty specific ongoing competencies, based on needs and identified organizational criteria. Assists in competency management including using tools that capture objective and subjective data regarding individual knowledge and actual performance. Assists in the development of initial training and future competency assessment tools for new processes, practices, and equipment.Collaborative Partnerships
Promotes evidenced based educational experience through consultation with clinical leaders, preceptors, subject matter experts, and team members involved in education. Provides consultation and educational support through participation in professional governance committees and collaboration with organizational leaders. Partners with nursing leaders to identify, address, and support the education and development needs of nursing team members.Inquiry
Models the integration of evidenced based practices in the content and delivery of learning activities. Incorporates data from educational activity evaluations to inform future educational offerings.Onboarding and Orientation
Provides facilitation support to orientation and onboarding programs. Supports preceptors and leaders in assigned area to promote positive orientation experiences tailored to the specialty learning environment. Assists in the design, development and implementation of specialty specific educational activities for newly hired team members and nurse residents.Role Development
Provides mentorship and support for preceptors in assigned specialty. Models a commitment to lifelong learning through engagement in educational opportunities for oneself.The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: BSN required. Master’s degree in related field (nursing, education, or other clinical practice area) required within 3 years of hire.
Experience: Minimum of three years of nursing practice. Minimum of two years of practice in specialty area or in clinical education
Licensure & Certification: Current, unencumbered licensure valid in the state of Virginia. Certified in American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS or PALS as appropriate for specialty. AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS certified instructor preferred. Professional certification for area of focus preferred
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong presentation and speaking skills. Excellent interpersonal, planning, and problem-solving skills. Critical thinking and analytical skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
