The Vascular Anomalies Center (VAC) at Boston Children’s Hospital provides diagnoses, treatment, and ongoing care for children with vascular anomalies. These vessel abnormalities can affect the capillaries, veins, arteries, lymphatic vessels, or a combination of them. The VAC research team conducts basic, translational, and clinical research that continues to fuel the development of new, more effective therapies for vascular malformations and vascular tumors in children and adults — research that may one day even result in ways of preventing these anomalies.
This Clinical Research Assistant will be responsible for:
+ Handling and transporting specimen samples when working with Phlebotomy
+ Consenting and recruiting patients for research studies through personal interviews and written communications with patients/families. Providing detailed background information regarding studies to families, communicating all policies and procedures, and responding to all inquiries. Evaluating suitability of prospective study candidates and making selections based upon clinical knowledge of each study
+ Serving as liaison to the families/patients in the research studies, conducted at both on site and off-site locations, guiding and advising them throughout each phase of the study. Coordinating follow up visits as necessary. Acting as a resource to study participants, addressing any concerns they may have. Troubleshooting resolution of any issues that may arise throughout the study
+ Coordinating and preparing the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board IRB and Committee on Clinical Investigations CCI submissions, together with the PI of the study
+ Creating and preparing data collection statistical reports and analytical summaries for distribution to study research team for review and analysis. Writing articles and summary papers of studies for submission to medical journals, as may be necessary/requested
+ Participating in the training of newly hired research study assistants, as required
+ Coordinating activities between the hospital and research laboratories to ensure correct testing/processing and sending out instructions specific to the study. Communicating project policies and procedures to personnel. Monitoring and reviewing data collection and data entry, and informed consent procedures ensuring consistency of application for each study
+ Performing other administrative duties as assigned or required
To qualify, you must have:
+ A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, Psychology or a related field
+ Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are can be complex
+ Well-developed communication skills in order to provide critical information to patients, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and the ability to mediate fair solutions
+ Advanced writing skills
