Job Summary

The Movement and Cognition Neurotherapeutics Lab in the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a highly motivated, experienced research coordinator with an interest in neuroscience to join our research lab as a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator. Our lab uses a combination of intraoperative neurophysiology, noninvasive neurophysiology, and neuroimaging to further our understanding of the role of the human basal ganglia in health and disease and to develop new treatments. Many projects are at the interface of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and include clinical trials of novel deep brain stimulation algorithms, gene therapy and cell therapy.

Under the direction of Dr. Herrington, this individual is responsible for implementing research protocols using scientific methods, including working with physicians, clinical nurses, and patients to identify and recruit eligible participants, obtaining all necessary approvals and informed consent forms, screening, and enrolling patients into active studies, and acting as a liaison between the participant and other members of the team. In addition, the individual would help prepare applications and reports to the Institutional Review Board and the federal Food and Drug Administration in support of these research efforts.

The ideal candidate would have a background in biology, neuroscience, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related field with a strong interest in neuroscience and neurology. This person may want to advance to medical school or graduate school in the next few years and would use this position as a stepping stone to a future path.


 

Qualifications

Following established policies, procedures, and study protocols, provides assistance on clinical research studies, including recruiting, evaluating, and consenting patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data; scheduling patients for study visits; performing clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc.; maintaining and updating data generated by the study. Additionally, it provides input into determining study subject suitability and input into recruitment strategy. Performs data analysis, interpretation, QA/QC, and assists in completing reports and presentations.

-Assists with determining the suitability of study subjects and acts as a resource for patients and families.

-Has input into recruitment strategies and may contribute to protocol recommendations.

-Administers scores and evaluates study questionnaires.

-Maintains research data, patient files, regulatory binders, and study databases.

-Performs data analysis and QA/QC checks and organizes and interprets data.

-Assists with preparation for annual review and assists PI in completing study reports and presentations.

-May assist with training and orientation of new staff members.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Science required.

Related post-bachelor's degree research experience; 1-2 years required.
