The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) supports the clinical research mission of UW Medicine. The CTO is an operational unit within the UW School of Medicine and the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) charged with providing multi-service support to clinical researchers bringing important new therapies to our patients in compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
The CTO Clinical Research Training Lead (Lead) is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing the training plan, which includes onboarding internal staff, as well as providing training to study teams across UW and our partner institutions. The Lead will focus on achieving training goals in creating and promoting foundational understanding of clinical research environment and study team responsibilities.
The Lead is a part of the operational CTO leadership and reports to the CTO Senior Director. The position is key to maintaining study team, investigator, and institutional compliance in clinical research and clinical research billing by ensuring robust and thorough training is available.
Clinical Trials Office is a central clinical research operation with compliance responsibilities and services across the vast portfolio of clinical trials in UW Medicine. The CTO operation has direct impact on UW reputation with major global biotech and biopharma sponsors and the availability of funded clinical trial opportunities in UW pipeline. In addition, the CTO plays a key role in mitigating institutional financial and reputational risks by ensuring strict compliance with the CMS and the FDA regulations and guidelines. CTO Clinical Research Training Lead is a key role to maintaining compliant and efficient clinical research operations within CTO and UW Medicine.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** CTO Staff Training – 50%:
+ Establish effective training strategy and develop onboarding training curriculum for new CTO staff.
+ Onboard new staff and orient them to CTO operations.
+ Provide hands-on study-specific training to CTO research coordinators.
+ In partnership with Strategic Communications staff, develop onboarding and other training materials for internal CTO staff.
+ Continually monitor, evaluate, and adjust the training program based on user feedback and operational changes.
+ Present strategic training program improvement and enhancement ideas to leadership.
+ In partnership with CTO leadership, establish staff training monitoring and tracking mechanisms.
+ Actively contribute training content and strategy for CTO website presentation.Institutional Training Efforts – 50%:
+ Develop and implement CTO training program for study teams at UW and partner institutions, including but not limited to study start-up processes, coordinator responsibilities for research billing, research coordinator competencies, etc.
+ Identify and effectively collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance content development and improve training presentations.
+ In partnership with Strategic Communications staff, propose, develop, and implement research staff and faculty education and training materials.
+ Develop timely training communication about operational changes, improvements, and adjustments for the clinical research community.
+ Collaborate with various UW programs and our strategic partners in developing new and improving existing training resources. Our strategic partners include the UW Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS), Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC), and Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH).
+ Accelerate awareness for the UW CTO footprint, processes, and procedures among the key institutional stakeholders, including study teams, investigators, UW departments and divisions, UW leadership, and key partner institutions.
+ Serve as liaison with the UW Medicine, CTMS Program Office, ITHS, SCH, FHCC, and Cancer Consortium training programs. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor’s degree in science, healthcare, education, research, business administration or related field.
+ Minimum four years of clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. _Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration._ **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Work experience in an academic healthcare setting.
+ Clinical research training or mentoring experience.
+ Ability to manage competing priorities with minimal direction.
+ Demonstrated skills in MS Office, various LMS platforms, Epic EMR, and clinical research systems, including Clinical Trial Management System, e-Regulatory platforms, Electronic Data Capture systems, and e-Consent tools.
+ Demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple project timelines.
+ Excellent written communication skills.
+ Outstanding verbal and interpersonal communication skills to be able to interact effectively with all levels of leadership, faculty, research staff, sponsors, and clients.
+ Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Current professional certification in clinical research (CCRC, CCRP, CCRA, etc.).
+ Experience working in a Clinical Trials Office or a similar clinical research operation.
+ Ability to effectively utilize data and metrics in support of process improvement.
