Clinical Services Medical- Float- Full Time- Bilingual Required

Initiative—Recognizing and doing what needs to be done before I am asked to do it.   Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: After an orientation/training period, the Clinical Services Medical – Float will independently function in the provision of patient care in any area of an assigned Variety Care clinic where there is a need. This includes patient care in adult/family medicine, pediatrics, immunization clinic, laboratory, optometry, behavioral health, and women’s health. Clinical Services Medical – Float will also function as a medical scribe.    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  Coordinates workload with other clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive experience for all patients. When working in a pod or clinic, greets and welcomes patients, escorts them to the appropriate location and prepares them to be seen by provider. Inquiries about any self-referrals, recent ER visits or hospitalizations, and requests information from appropriate sources, documenting all in the patient’s electronic healthcare record (EHR). Obtains patient history, patient’s stated chief complaint, vital signs, height and weight, Respirations, pulse, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, allergies, active medication list, pain score and head circumference (as appropriate) and documents in the EHR. Performs phlebotomy, waived testing, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests as ordered by the provider. Reconciles all of patient’s current medications, including vitamins, supplements, over the counter medications, PRNs, inhalers, etc. to create an accurate list in the EHR and for the patient. Administers medications, injections and vaccines as prescribed by the provider, and documents accurately in the patient’s EHR and OSIIS. Assists providers with physical exams and procedures as directed. Responsible for efficient, productive workflow in clinic or pod assigned. Addresses the needs of patients and families in the clinics. Keeps patients informed of possible wait times and manages visit expectations, using excellent customer service skills. Addresses telephone encounters assigned to you as well as your provider and peers throughout the workday. Sensitive to various cultures and their differences, and utilizes effective communication skills with patients, families, and staff. Maintains cleanliness of clinic areas.  Ensures quick turnaround of exam rooms, restocking of medical supplies and cleaning of equipment before and after use by any patient. Responsible for maintaining supply stock appropriate for patient care needs. Follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines and VARIETY CARE policies and procedures as they relate to privacy and confidentiality. Complies with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations for the workplace. Disposes of contaminated items according to Variety Care policy. Coordinates with referral clerks to arrange referrals outside of Variety Care as requested by provider.  Communicates with community organizations, health plans, facilities, and specialists to obtain test and referral results. Supports plan of care and patient education in line with provider recommendations. Responds promptly to and addresses all telephone calls, encounters, and call back requests.  Addresses telephone encounters of others in pod or clinic assigned. Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medical information in patient records, locating and compiling charges, obtaining medical records from outside providers and agencies prior to patient’s appointment, and entering charges appropriately for billing purposes. Performs daily journaling of job duties to assist in future training of new staff. Trains, coaches, and mentor peers.  Demonstrates excellent team skills and customer service skills. Follows Universal Precautions for safety regulations; uses appropriate PPE as task on hand requires. Assists with medical emergencies as needed and as directed by provider, including Code Yellow and Code Blue. Result-oriented problem solver who is responsible and accountable. Performs other duties as assigned.         Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:  Medical Assistant Certificate or LPN License. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Basic Life Support for the Healthcare provider certification (CPR) or obtained within 30 days of hire. Flexible and willing to work all clinical settings based on the needs of the day.   Some short distance day travel is required to Variety Care clinics within the OKC metro and Norman areas.   Preferred requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:  One to two years of Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient clinic, urgent care or similar setting. AAMA Certification or Registration.   Essential Functions: Able to lift at least 25 pounds Able to assist patients onto and off exam table as directed.
