Position Description
Serves as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice for the system. Utilizes clinical practice expertise to serve as a role model for collaborative practice model.Develops clinical guidelines for high-risk/high cost patients through clinical pathway systems.
Conducts clinical research; assists nursing staff in applying research findings and pathway data analysis results as they relate to patient outcomes.
Monitors resource utilization to assure appropriate level of utilization.
Assists with the development and evaluation of policies, procedures, and standards of care; ensures consistency of clinical guideline documents and system-wide policies with recognized regulatory and specialty standards.
Facilitates resolution of individual patient care variances.
Serves as a patient advocate and as a resource for complex patient care situations.
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.
Utilizes leadership principles initiating, prescribing, influencing, and facilitating changes for clinical practice.
Coordinates clinical guideline team efforts related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of guidelines.
Establishes collegial relationships with physicians and allied health professionals.
Works with health care team to ensure timely discharge and appropriateness of intervention plan.
Collaborates with Decision Support, QI, Case Management/Social Services, and other ancillary departments as indicated.
Actively participates in institutional committees.
Designs, guides, and/or implements formal and informal health education for patients and families.
Collaborates with unit manager and others regarding operational issues and systems improvement.
Facilitates nursing clinical competency by participating in formal and informal education of nursing staff.
Shares in the responsibility of nursing staff orientation to assure a baseline competence in knowledge and skills.
Encourages nursing staff to assume responsibility for their own professional development.
Serves as a resource to clinical faculty and all levels and types of students to enhance their learning experience.
Collaborates with clinical faculty in providing and coordinating learning experiences of nursing students.
Participates in activities designed to continue professional self-improvement and advance the goals of the nursing profession.
Provides/coordinates education for all members of health care teams regarding clinical guidelines.
Interprets, reports, identifies trends, analyzes variances, and recommends changes in patient care practices.
Communicates current service related clinical literature/standards.
Evaluates and validates established clinical guideline standards (internal and external) and correlates applicability with trends in specific patient populations.
Applies research findings to the analysis of outcomes and guideline data in order to effect changes in clinical practice.
Performs various duties related to research process to include conducting review and analysis of quality data, clinical product trials, and data collection procedures.
Serves as a consultant for establishment and maintenance of quality improvement monitoring programs.
Position Requirements
Master’s Degree in Nursing from an Accredited College or University. Minimum three (3) years of experience in clinical area (Labor & Delivery/Women’s Services). Effective analytical and organizational skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
