POSITION SUMMARY: In accordance with department policy and objectives, the GPS assists in maintaining patient and staff safety by implementing various diversionary strategies, and assisting in delegated nursing care. **JOB DUTIES:** **Typical duties include the following:** + Problem solving and critical thinking skills to help implement healthcare interventions at the direction of the bedside nurse. + Assisting patients with ambulation, hygiene, nutrition, linen changes, and other activities of daily living. + Identifying potential risks and early signs of escalating patient behaviors (e.g. agitation, confusion, anxiety). + Incorporating therapeutic and diversionary interventions to maintain patient safety, refocus the patient, and promote healthy behaviors. + Keeping patient and staff safety at the forefront, engaging the patient in reduction techniques to maintain safety. **The GPS role allows individuals the following:** + Opportunities for professional development + Ability to work with a variety of patients (children to adults) + Flexible scheduling + Working with a dynamic team **Ideal candidates will possess the following:** + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to work independently + Innovative with patient care + Flexible in thinking and approach **QUALIFICATIONS:** **Required:** + High School diploma or equivalent **Preferred:** + AAS degree in psychology/sociology or 1-2 years of healthcare related experience such as: PCT, CAN, or psychiatric technician or Bachelor¿s degree in human services.
