Cloud Application Engineer, Associate
BlackRock
**About this role**
**Cloud Application Engineer, Aladdin RIO Advisory Tech/Cloud**
The RIO Cloud team delivers solutions and services to support our partners in the Risk, Financial Markets Advisory (FMA) and Sustainability businesses. The main product offering to date has been Aladdin Foresight, a cloud native application enabling clients to organise and automate fragmented model-driven business processes to facilitate effective decision making. However, the team’s scope has recently increased to also include two exciting new growth projects, one a build out of the new ALD Risk platform and the other is to drive BlackRock’s Sustainability tools. The common factor amongst these projects is they are all built with a cloud native paradigm as we seek to gain maximum benefit from the new infrastructure available to us.
At BlackRock, we are looking for Software Engineers who like to innovate and solve complex problems. We recognise that strength comes from diversity, and will embrace your unique skills, curiosity, drive, and passion while giving you the opportunity to grow technically and as an individual. With over USD $10 trillion of assets, we have an exceptional responsibility: our technology empowers millions of investors to save for retirement, pay for college, buy a home, and improve their financial wellbeing.
As a developer at BlackRock, you'll work for a leading financial company and be part of a team creating next-generation technology.
You will work in most, if not all, of the following areas:
+ **Infrastructure** – deliver new services and enhancements to the Azure cloud and CI/CD process. This entails a close collaboration with the Application Hosting team as we evolve services and underlying infrastructure in unison on the Aladdin Kubernetes based Cloud-Native platform.
+ **Back End** – deploy new capabilities in backend micro-services across a variety of languages.
+ **Front End** – building out new features in the web frontend using the latest Angular and Typescript libraries
This Associate requires solid hands-on programming, creative problem solving, and troubleshooting skills with an enthusiasm for learning. This role also offers the opportunity to partner with proficient software engineers to continue to build both new systems and enhance existing ones.
**Your Responsibilities**
+ Designing, coding, testing, and supporting reliable, robust software applications and services with high-quality standards.
+ Participating actively in multi-functional feature requirements gathering, design, and implementation.
+ Liaising with the Application Hosting teams to identify optimal solutions for deployment on the Cloud-Native platform.
+ Performing code reviews and providing timely feedback to other engineers.
+ Communicating and documenting technical details to the team and wider community.
**Ideally, you should have…**
+ Technical degree (e.g. computer science, engineering, maths) with 4-6 years of professional software development experience
+ Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices
+ Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes and cloud services in an enterprise environment
+ At least one of Go, C#, Python, Java
+ Angular/UI, though not essential
+ Demonstrable experience building modern software using engineering tools such as git, maven, unit testing and integration testing tools, mocking frameworks
+ Experience with data modelling, both relational and non-relational, and schema design (e.g., SQL Server, Sybase, Snowflake)
+ Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
+ Friendly, positive, and can-do attitude
**Our benefits**
To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of employee benefits including: retirement investment and tools designed to help you in building a sound financial future; access to education reimbursement; comprehensive resources to support your physical health and emotional well-being; family support programs; and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.
