Cloud Database Administrator

The Cloud Database Administrator will play an important role in managing and optimizing our Database systems to ensure peak performance, data integrity, and availability. You will be expected to work with operational support and project teams for the all the database platforms and assist with implementing their requirements as required. The Cloud Database Administrator will provide subject matter expertise for ATCO’s multi-cloud database environments and some on-premises environments and will be expected to work with the 24x7 infrastructure and application support teams as required.

The Cloud Database Administrator will be responsible for monitoring, supporting and implementing recommendations for continuous improvement and new solutions. In addition, you will be responsible for oversight of the health and operations of the multi-cloud database environments, with a focus on proactive monitoring, maintenance backups, and operational events monitoring. This role will require being independent and responsible for on-time delivery of projects and solutions. 

The Cloud Database Administrator will be expected to have good knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server database systems from the perspective of high availability, resiliency, performance, operations and design.  A general understanding of MySQL and Postgres will be an asset and ability to quickly translate existing database knowledge to new database platforms is essential. The Cloud Database Administrator will be expected to have good knowledge of all Database areas in Oracle Cloud and Azure Cloud and will work closely with the Database Technical Lead in implementing high quality solutions which meet business, technology and security requirements. In addition, the Cloud Database Administrator should have an awareness of the overall ATCO business enterprise and ATCO enterprise-wide IT architecture and be available to understand the issues and implications and work with Cybersecurity and Enterprise Infrastructure teams on database implementations.

What Else You Get To Do

Maintain high level of expertise in all relevant database technologies and provide oversight of service providers responsible for managing ATCO database environments. Implement database solutions using tools and interfaces. Responsible for updating and working with the documentation of ATCO database requirements and solutions. Review and ensure existing ATCO database technical documentation is complete and up to date and provide recommendations to Database Technical Lead. Review vendor provided system documentation, including database solution architecture and system manuals, to ensure alignment to business & technical requirements and review with Database Technical Lead as necessary. Translate business requirements into ATCO database technical requirements and/or solutions. Contribute to the formulation and definition of system scope and objective based on operational or project requirements as they relate to ATCO database infrastructure. Work closely with application and business teams for successful planning of database requirements. Participate in ATCO database solution design with the Database Technical Lead to ensure completeness of technical scope and implementation. Keep abreast of new and emerging database and cloud technologies and/or service offerings. Maintain knowledge of database technology products in ATCO environment. Strong database technical knowledge and understanding of interfacing systems and associated business areas supported. Maintain a strong understanding of the overall ATCO database architecture and of the technology products in the ATCO cloud environment to understand the issues and implications of proposed cloud system and hardware solutions. Maintain an understanding of ATCO Security practices and ensure that the database area is always compliant. Review database and cloud security alerts/dashboards to quickly fix any security risks.

Who You Are: 

College diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related Oracle Certified Professional certification is an asset 3-5 years in database management environments Proven experience in an agile database team: Azure, Cloud Oracle and SQL Server, including installation, configuration, and administration Linux & Windows Operating Systems High Availability and Resiliency SQL and PL/SQL programming Git/Bitbucket Database Security, Encryption and Audit Goldengate Oracle Enterprise Manager Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (database, access and security) Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve access-related issues Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and end-users
