Cloud Engineer

A Cloud Engineer is someone that specializes in engineering of services and platforms running in the Public Cloud. They work directly with the different IaaS and PaaS solutions of different Cloud Service Providers.

Our Cloud Engineers have responsibilities ranging from design and development of applications, up to maintenance and improvement of platforms that they developed. Their focus is on building cloud-native solutions and innovation as they operate in the ever-changing environments of the Public Cloud.

Responsibilities

Delivery

Develop applications and platforms features defined by the Product OwnerBuild deployment pipelines for applications and platformsDraft effective and applicable technical solutions that fit business needs and requirementsInvestigate and assess technologies that can/will be used/implementedPerform Proof-of-Concepts on technology proposalsFor applications and platforms owned by the squad:Provide technical consultation on applications and platforms to other Engineering teamsManage, maintain, update, and upgrade applications and platformsImplement security controls and policies requiredJoin rotation of on-call engineers that support the applications and platformsAnalyze and troubleshoot incidents and resolve in a timely mannerWork with the Squad Lead and fellow Cloud Engineers in prioritizing backlog and deliverablesParticipate in risk assessments and mitigating activities as neededRegularly attend meetings to discuss projects, issues, and ideasCreate and assist in the documentation of solutions

Practice & Craftsmanship

Contribute to the definition of technical standards and guidance for the team and chapterInvestigate and prototype new technologies and frameworks and make recommendations for their introduction into the developmental and operational environmentsDrive to debug, instrument, and optimize code, describe system performance characteristics, and automate routine tasks

Required Skills

Strong understanding of basic Public Cloud conceptsStrong understanding of DevOps and CI/CDExperience in Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform)Experience in containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)Experience in developing and maintaining applications and/or platformsExperience and knowledge of some Cloud Services (Azure, GCP)Ability to think independently and contribute to the overall effortAbility to work well within a team environmentAbility to work well under pressureAbility to be a self-starter and work in a fast paced environment performing designing, writing, editing, modifying, and debugging codeOutstanding analytical skillsCommunication skills: Cloud Engineers work with several engineering teams from different parts of the globeInnovative and creative skills: Cloud Engineers must have the desire to research and discover new technologies that can be applied to the Public CloudAction-oriented, decisive approach to work required, with the willingness to take a hands-on role to ensure deliverables are met on time if needed
