Job Description About TRS: Since 1917, the Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) has been securing better futures for NYC educators. Position Summary: TRS’ IT Infrastructure team is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer to manage our Azure and AWS infrastructures including and not limited to AWS Kubernetes clusters in the private cloud. The successful candidate will join a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) specializing in AWS and Azure infrastructure. **May be required to work after regular business hours, including nights, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to ensure smooth operation of our cloud environments. Responsibilities: Cloud Infrastructure Management: - Manage and administer cloud infrastructure in AWS and Microsoft Azure environments. - Manage and administer container orchestration using AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) for large-scale applications. - Ensure scalability, performance, and availability of cloud resources to meet business demands. - Manage and administer AWS services including and not limited to EC2, S3, VPC, Glacier, and other AWS services. - Manage and administer Azure services including and not limited to Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure Entra, Virtual Networks, and other Azure services. - Support automation of cloud infrastructure deployments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. Windows Server Administration: - Provide support for Windows Server technologies (eg. Windows Server 2022/2019/2016), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Management. - Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Windows infrastructure in cloud and hybrid environments. - Implement cloud-based Active Directory services, ensuring seamless integration with on-premises environments. Cloud Security and Compliance: - Configure and maintain security best practices in AWS and Azure, including identity management, access control, and data encryption. - Implement security policies for cloud environments, such as IAM roles and Security Groups in AWS and Azure RBAC. - Conduct security audits and ensure compliance with industry standards, such as ISO, SOC, and GDPR. Automation & Monitoring: - Develop automation scripts for cloud infrastructure management, including provisioning, scaling, and monitoring using tools like Bash and PowerShell, - Implement monitoring solutions in AWS and Azure using CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and Prometheus for real-time alerting and metrics collection. - Build CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and deployment using tools such as GitLab, or Azure DevOps. Containerization & Orchestration: - Manage and support containerized applications using AWS EKS, Docker, and Kubernetes. - Optimize Kubernetes clusters for resource efficiency and manage container networking, security, and storage. - Troubleshoot containerized applications, ensuring high availability and resolving performance issues. Collaboration and Support: - Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to build and maintain reliable and secure cloud environments. - Provide support to application and development teams in the design and deployment of cloud-based solutions. - Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for cloud technologies, providing technical guidance and best practices to internal teams. Cloud Cost Optimization: - Monitor and analyze cloud usage to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement resource optimization strategies. - Utilize AWS and Azure cost management tools to track and manage expenses while staying within budget. **Please note you must be reachable on a civil service list or working in a permanent civil service title to be considered for this position. COMPUTER SPECIALIST (SOFTWARE) - 13632 Qualifications (1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time software experience in designing, programming, debugging, maintaining, implementing, and enhancing computer software applications, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or (2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory software experience as described in “1" above, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or (3) A satisfactory combination of education and experience that is equivalent to (1) or (2) above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in (2) above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. A masters degree in computer science or a related computer field may be substituted for one year of the required experience in (1) or (2) above. However, all candidates must have a four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, plus at least one (1) year of satisfactory full-time software experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project. NOTE: In order to have your experience accepted as Project Leader or Major Contributor experience, you must explain in detail how your experience qualifies you as a project leader or as a major contributor. Experience in computer operations, technical support, quality assurance (QA), hardware installation, help desk, or as an end user will not be accepted for meeting the minimum qualification requirements. Special Note To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, in addition to the Qualification Requirements stated above, individuals must have one year of satisfactory experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in data administration, database management systems, operating systems, data communications systems, capacity planning, and/or on-line applications programming.
