GENERAL DESCRIPTION \n
The Journeyman Cloud Engineer will support the Integrated Defensive Cyber System (IDCS) training team by designing and building a virtual network environment for Air Force defensive cyber operators. This environment will initially comprise 77 virtual machines, with potential scaling to hundreds of machines. The engineer will ensure that the network can be replicated to accommodate training for 50 students simultaneously. The role involves both on-premises and cloud-based solutions, utilizing platforms such as VMware, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. \n

DUTIES \n
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:\n\nDesign and Develop Virtual Networks: Create scalable and flexible virtual network architectures to support the training of Air Force defensive cyber operators.\nCloud and On-Premises Solutions: Develop and implement cloud engineering solutions using platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, and VMware, with the ability to choose between on-premises hardware or commercial cloud hosting.\nScalability and Flexibility: Incorporate open architecture principles to ensure that the network can scale and adapt to future requirements, potentially involving hundreds of virtual machines.\nCollaboration: Work closely with other engineering teams to apply cloud engineering principles across all components and processes of the virtual training environment.\nDocumentation and Compliance: Process necessary paperwork and ensure that all solutions comply with established procedures and standards.\nContinuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest cloud technologies and trends to continuously improve the training network environment.\nTravel: Travel may be required to support the deployment and maintenance of the training environment at various locations.\nAdditional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the IDCS training team.\n\n
EDUCATION\/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS \n\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered. \nProven experience in designing, deploying, and managing virtual networks using cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and\/or on-premise solutions (VMware). \nExperience with PCTE is preferred. \nStrong understanding of cloud engineering principles and virtualization technologies.\nAbility to assess and compare the benefits and drawbacks of on-premise vs. cloud-hosted solutions.\nExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.\nStrong communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams.\nRelevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are highly desirable.\nMust be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance and ability to obtain a TS\/SCI clearance.\nMust be able to work effectively in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment with rapidly changing demands.\nMust have strong writing and communications skills.\nMust be able to work well under pressure, prioritize task, and meet deadlines.\nMust be detail oriented, with exceptional problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.\nMust have excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.\nMust be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).\nMust be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.\n\n
