GENERAL DESCRIPTION\n
The Senior Cloud Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and management of a sophisticated virtual network environment to support the training of Air Force defensive cyber operators. This role requires an expert who can architect, deploy, and oversee a scalable and flexible virtual range, starting with a baseline of 77 virtual machines and potentially expanding to hundreds. The network environment must support replication for up to 50 students at a time. The Senior Cloud Engineer will be responsible for strategic decision-making, ensuring the use of the most suitable technologies, whether on-premise with VMware or on commercial cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure. \n

DUTIES\n
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:\n\nStrategic Design and Architecture: Lead the design of complex, scalable cloud and on-premise network architectures tailored to training deliverables for Air Force defensive cyber operators.\nAdvanced Implementation and Deployment: Oversee the deployment of the designed architecture, ensuring high availability, performance, and security using VMware for on-premise solutions or AWS, GCP, and Azure for cloud deployments.\n\nEvaluate and implement best practices for deploying, managing, and scaling complex virtual networks.\nLead the automation of network deployment and management processes to enhance efficiency and reduce the potential for errors.\n\n\nLeadership and Collaboration: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them through complex problem-solving and project execution.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cloud engineering best practices into all project components and processes.\nAct as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project status, challenges, and requirements.\n\n\nInnovation and R&D: Continuously research emerging cloud technologies, tools, and methodologies to incorporate cutting-edge solutions into the network design.\n\nLead initiatives to optimize network performance, security, and cost-effectiveness through innovative solutions and automation.\n\n\nCompliance and Documentation: Ensure all network designs and implementations comply with Air Force security protocols, standards, and best practices.\n\nMaintain thorough documentation of network architecture, configurations, and processes, ensuring clarity and accessibility for future reference.\n\n\nAdditional Responsibilities:\n\nTravel as required to support network deployment, troubleshooting, or stakeholder meetings.\nPerform other duties as assigned, with an emphasis on driving continuous improvement and innovation.\n\n\n\n
EDUCATION\/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS \n\nMaster's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Equivalent work experience may be considered. \n10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with a proven track record of designing, deploying, and managing large-scale virtual networks on platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, and VMware.\nExtensive experience in leading cloud projects from conception through deployment and maintenance, with a focus on scalability, flexibility, and security. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance and ability to obtain a TS\/SCI clearance.\nExperience with PCTE is preferred. \nMust be able to work effectively in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment with rapidly changing demands.\nExpert knowledge of cloud engineering principles, virtualization technologies, and network architecture design.\nStrong leadership skills with experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers.\nAdvanced problem-solving capabilities with a proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.\nExcellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.\nAdvanced certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) are highly desirable.\nMust have strong writing and communications skills.\nMust be able to work well under pressure, prioritize task, and meet deadlines.\nMust be detail oriented, with exceptional problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.\nMust have excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.\nMust be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).\nMust be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.\n\n
