Job Purpose:

The Cloud Platform Engineer role is critical in Tokio Marine HCC International’s (TMHCCI) journey to a more mature cloud. Interacting with various IT teams across TMHCC, the position will play a key role in supporting and developing the TMHCCI cloud offering within an Azure-first strategy.

The role requires a deep understanding of Microsoft Azure, strong technical and analytical skills, a passion for the cloud, and a continuous-development mentality.  Automation workflows will be used simplify and streamline infrastructure provisioning and configuration. Continuous improvements will be delivered to our guardrails and policies to deliver stable, resilient and secure cloud solutions.

The successful candidate will champion Cloud, Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for deployment, development, project and support processes within TMHCCI.  They will possess the drive to make the Cloud Platform Team the ‘Centre of Excellence’ for Azure across TMHCC. The individual must have experience working with global infrastructure and possess a team-first mentality, whilst adhering to internal processes with the ability to manage business critical issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and administer the Microsoft Azure cloud environment, including provisioning, configuration, monitoring, policy governance, security and cost-management.Troubleshoot and resolve cloud-related issues.Design, develop, and deploy solutions with a 'cloud mindset' - incorporating resiliency, security, optimisation and cost-effectiveness.Utilise infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for deployments, delivering automated and consistent platform solutions.Use scripting and other tools to automate cloud operations and workflows and minimise manual processes.Ensure cloud services are managed following best practices for availability, resiliency and security.Manage and maintain disaster recovery and backup solutions.Write and update comprehensive and high-quality cloud documentation.Work closely with networking, security, and applications teams while implementing cloud solutions.Co-ordinate with IT security functions to ensure suitable security standards are maintained, and policies adhered to.Contribute towards the improvement of the company's cloud operational standards and processes.Work with the Cloud Platform Lead to deliver ongoing cloud services strategy, enable innovation, and seek to leverage IT trends that can create business value.Our principal cloud vendor of choice is Microsoft Azure, though we embrace the ability of a multi-cloud approach.

Performance Objectives:  

Build and run reliable, secure, performant and cost-effective cloud workloads.Create and support cloud patterns, guardrails and processes as needed.Champion Cloud, Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for deployment.Simplify and streamline infrastructure provisioning and configuration.

Skills and Experience Specification:

Possess in-depth knowledge of Microsoft's Azure public cloud, including Virtual Machines, Networking, Storage, Key Vaults, Azure Site Recovery, DNS, security and cost management.Demonstrable experience working in a Cloud Platform Team supporting an enterprise-grade Azure environment.Scripting proficiency using Microsoft Powershell, with the ability write scripts from scratch and maintain and update scripts written by others.Knowledge of and experience deploying infrastructure using Terraform.Experience with source and version control, ideally including Git and Azure DevOps or GitHub.Ability to recognise and report upward on areas for improved efficiencies and productivity.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.A desire to help and guide team members and other teams across the wider IT department.Microsoft Azure-qualified.

Useful:

CI/CD pipelines experience.AWS knowledge and experience.Knowledge of Microsoft's Azure Well-Architected Framework.Report creation using PowerBI.Experience consuming/querying REST APIs.Experience using ServiceNow.

Desirable:

Knowledge of the Insurance Industry Willingness to travel to Houston and Europe as required.

The successful candidate may be required to occasionally work beyond scheduled hours as required - providing out-of-hours support in incident situations or working with international teams.
