The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Cloud SRE Manager in Sylmar, CA or Sunnyvale, CA in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division.

Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease.

Lead a platform focused SRE team and be responsible for the reliability of the platform. This is a hands-on role, to improve and establish SRE practices for services hosted on Azure Cloud and applications hosted within Abbott datacenters. You will lead a team of Site Reliability Engineers who thrive in a fast-paced workplace, where drive and collaboration are the keys to success. As a leader, you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring team members, helping them achieve service goals, and build career paths. It’s imperative for the leader to empower the team by providing appropriate context and timely feedback. This is a broad cross-organization role with high-visibility, collaborating with multiple teams. Collaboration with various teams is critical to success.

About the team:

The DevOps/SRE Engineering team provides a fast-paced, dynamic work environment where engineers work closely to provide software services to patients and physicians. You will collaborate with other engineers in Architecture, Development, IT, Systems engineering teams, Customer support to continue finding new areas that can be improved by bringing a SRE mindset to product offerings. What You’ll Work On

The leader will lead a platform focused SRE team and be responsible for the reliability of the applications hosted within Abbott data centers and Azure cloud.Implement structured engineering and operations processes.Lead the team in daily agile SRE practices, ensuring proper team focus on priorities, achievements, and deliverables.As a leader, you are responsible for coaching and mentoring team members, helping them achieve service goals, and build career paths.Optimize cloud data workloads for security, cost, performance, latency, reliability, and availability.Drive incident management and post-mortem analysisSupport audits and compliance, adhering to applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.Implement effective standards, methodologies, and processes, driving change proactively as appropriate for continuous improvement.The ability to interact and communicate collaboratively at the highest technical levels with customers, vendors, partners, and all members of staff is required.Continual knowledge transfer, training and mentoring of junior staff is also expected.Effectively communicates and partners with cross-functional teams, customers, and stakeholders.Build trust with stakeholders and partner through diplomacy, discussion, and follow-through.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering Mathematics, or related field, with 8-10 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 6+ years of related experience.

Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Azure Cloud or similar cloud platform, Java and middleware applications.

Advanced knowledge with continuous integration and continuous development (CI/CD).

Ability to lead development and production environments, including on-call support and health monitoring.

Strong understanding of architecture and strong foundation of networking and Linux.

Capability to collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders at various levels.

Ability to work effectively within a team, engage in knowledge transfers, and provide guidance and lead a team. 

Advanced knowledge and experience in patching, security remediations, security hardening, threat modeling, and pen testing.

Previous exposure to medical devices, biomedical or high technology industry.

Experience managing strict SLAs, operational KPIs and cost optimization of cloud and PaaS infrastructure

Preferred team leadership experience and demonstrated mentorship capabilities.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,500.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
