Responsibilities

Each individual performs only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, CA Codes (bpc: 1204), and require a degree of skill commensurate with individual’s education, training or experience and technical abilities once competent in each section of the laboratory.

 

Each individual performing the above procedures must:

follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test resultsmaintain records that demonstrate the proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samplesadhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrumental and procedural calibrations and maintenance performedfollow the laboratory’s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performancebe capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance on reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the immediate CLS on shift, technical consultant, clinical consultant, or directordocument all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specificationsperform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgement and using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and Employee Health including employee drug screens and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory environmentperform first-line troubleshooting procedures as well as complicated and less frequently performed proceduresmaintain quality control and assists in checking work accuracy before it is reported out and able to recognize differences in expected results for newborns to geriatricsperform daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed instruments and equipment as appropriateperforms calibration of equipment as requireddemonstrate an ongoing awareness of the critical nature and essential high standards of quality required in the laboratoryset appropriate examples in the achievement of these high standardswork in a variety of situationsmay not work alone on any shift on any day of the week and is under direct supervision by a licensed CLSeffectively operate laboratory equipment and perform all laboratory tests, unassisted but supervised once competencies are complete in the specific area. Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

License for Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the State of CaliforniaMinimum 3 - 5-year clinical laboratory experience; preferredCPR within 6 months of employment if job includes direct patient contact

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $32.00. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
