Cluster Medical Director, Belgium and Luxembourg
Site Name: Belgium-Wavre Posted Date: Jun 27 2024 Position Summary The role of the Belgium and Luxembourg Medical Director is to provide leadership to the Medical affairs teams, strategic partnership with Commercial teams, and ensure appropriate Medical Governance. As a member of the Belgium management team, this role is expected to provide insights to the business, contribute to the LOC leadership and identify and mitigate risks & manage issues. The role reports to the VP, Medical Affairs, Northern and Western Europe with a dotted line to the General Manager, BeLux and leads a team of 35 medical affairs professionals including four therapeutic area heads, safety, and medical governance. Job Purpose 1. To provide overall Medical leadership for the Belgium, be a strategic partner to the Commercial team, and to ensure successful delivery of our Innovation, Performance & Trust strategies for Medical across Belgium and Luxembourg. 2. To drive a culture of focus, single-point accountable decision-making, smart risk-taking, developing outstanding people and high performance in the Medical teams. 3. To provide Medical leadership and accountability for all scientific/medical engagement activities conducted in Belgium and to ensure these are in line with GSK standards and values. 4. Overall accountability for Medical governance in the Belgium. 5. Partnership & collaboration with Commercial and other cross-functional teams to ensure Medical insights contribute effectively to the successful launch of new products, appropriate communication of scientific evidence to HCPs, and appropriate promotion of our medicines, ensuring at all times that the patients’ interests remain at the forefront of all activities. 6. Accountable for the operational delivery of key Medical Performance expectations, tracking & driving Medical performance measures 7. To ensure there is an effective medical capability development, talent development and succession planning process in place for all key Medical roles in the LOC. Key Responsibilities 1. To ensure appropriate leadership and input to the development and execution of Medical strategies and outstanding external engagement plans that are aligned with the business strategies and successful commercialization of GSK medicines. 2. To provide Medical leadership and ownership for local evidence generation, supporting ISSs, Real world evidence, evidence dissemination, scientific exchange, input to HTA & payer submissions and building trusted scientific partnerships with external scientific community. 3. To ensure appropriate resources and capabilities are available in the LOCs, in collaboration with the GM, to meet and execute essential requirements for Medical Affairs and governance functions and to enable successful external engagement by Medical. 4. To lead the Belgium Medical Governance Board, to ensure a robust governance framework is in place, and that the highest standards of Medical Governance are being practiced within the LOCs. 5. To provide input to appropriate risk management strategies for LOCs, and ensuring appropriate representation /spokesperson for Medical in local crisis management, as well as ensures representation in local MGBs, RMCB and other appropriate Governance bodies 6. To ensure adequate systems and processes for Pharmacovigilance are in place in all LOCs in the region, to comply with local regulations and GSK global Pharmacovigilance requirements. PRP tasks will be performed by the NSC/ designee. 7. Operational delivery of LOC Medical governance tasks, e.g. local promotion sign offs, may be delegated to the respective Medical governance managers and their teams. 8. LOC Medical Affairs Leads in Belgium may be empowered to provide functional leadership and accountability for the Medical Affair teams. Qualifications / Experience Basic Medical Doctor or Pharmacist Broad therapeutic area experience Experience, spanning clinical research and medical affairs. Product launch and lifecycle management experience In country and above country medical affairs experience Experience of leading an in country medical affairs team Experience of working closely with medical governance Preferred Strategic thinking, business acumen, effective matrix leadership, with proven ability to motivate, influence, negotiate, and collaborate; strong project management skills; solid planning and organizational skills; strong scientific/analytical problem-solving skills. Effective communication, influence, leadership, and talent development Strong organizational, planning, and business acumen skills Proven ability to interpret customer needs as well as negotiation and influence skills. Flexibility and ability to adjust to changing timelines and priorities. Ability to produce concise and simple summaries of concepts and solutions. Ability to cope under pressure with sometimes conflicting priorities. Ability to prioritize business needs and flexibility to address them when business appropriate. Ability to work with new technology and in the digital space. Proven ability to deliver effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management and scientific audiences using original or innovative techniques or style.
