MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, which provides a vital lifesaving link to rural communities in Clayton County and surrounding areas through ambulance and emergency services. MercyOne is committed to providing quality, personalized, and safe health care close to home.
The emergency department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with board certified physicians and advanced level practitioners who are well-trained to treat emergency needs. MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

As a Medical Assistant at MercyOne, you will Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.Obtain and record vital signs including but not limited to, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problems.Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, or topically.May perform routine tests including but not limited to EKG’s and Point of Care testing.Communicate with patients regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the physician.Prepare and clean instruments for sterilization and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.Perform other duties as assigned.Schedule:
Days - 64h pp. 3.5 days per week/one half day7:30 AM – 5:00 PMGeneral Requirements:
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.Education:
