The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of\r\nthe following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the\r\nactual job performance requirements.
Administer medication to inmates/residents under the direct\r\nsupervision of the Health Service Administrator.
Obtain, monitor, record and report vital signs and patient's\r\ncondition as needed.
Prepare patients for physical exams, procedures and treatments.
Assist nurses/physician with physical exams, procedures and\r\ntreatments.
Assist nurse with control and inventory of sharps, medical\r\nsupplies and equipment as required by established policies.
Assist nurse with preparing and maintaining a variety of reports\r\nand logs, to include filing, alphabetizing and labeling.
Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly; utilize\r\nappropriate sanitation methods.
Assist medical personnel with retrieving/filing medical records.
Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical\r\nrecords.
Assist with the inspection of the medical unit for items that\r\ncould be used as contraband by inmates/residents; securely store supplies and\r\nequipment or ensure their safe disposal.
Assist in performing CPR, when needed.
Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of\r\nthe medical program by providing the required level of organizational efficiency\r\nand approved, appropriate medical services.
Escort inmates/residents or\r\ncoordinate the movement of inmates/residents to and from different areas for\r\nmedical treatment.
Reliably and repetitively\r\nidentify inmates/residents by visual means.
Engage in functions in confined areas that\r\ninclude such things as working rotating shifts and physically checking the\r\ndoors, windows and other areas to verify they are secure.
Be aware that verbal abuse may\r\nbe present with the hostile views and opinions of inmates/residents and others\r\nencountered in an antagonistic environment.
Take appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
Inspect unclothed inmates/residents with\r\npossible exposure to body fluids, wastes and possible encounter with deceased\r\nor contagious persons.
Endeavor to comply with the requirements of applicable\r\nregulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and/or contract.
Inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as\r\ncontraband by inmate/residents; securely store or safely dispose of supplies\r\nand equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working\r\nrelations with others and handle difficult interpersonal contacts.
Attend scheduled staff\r\nmeetings, promote communications and the proper flow of relevant information in\r\nthe medical unit.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide using\r\nwhole numbers, common fractions and decimals; apply concepts such as fractions,\r\npercentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Review, process and respond (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits;\r\nattend court hearings, when necessary.
Interpret an extensive variety of medical\r\nand technical instructions in the form of handwritten text, correspondence,\r\npolicies, regulations, procedures, reports, directions for forms completion and\r\nother simple or complex documents.
Communicate effectively and\r\ncoherently to administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors and the\r\ngeneral public, particularly in situations requiring tact, diplomacy,\r\nunderstanding, fairness, firmness and good judgment.
Operate a vehicle during both the day and\r\nnight where driving conditions can include congested traffic and unsafe road\r\nconditions caused by factors such as fog, rain, ice and snow.
Remain alert at all times and\r\nreact quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency and other high stress\r\nsituations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent or\r\ngreater. Must possess a current\r\ncertification from an approved formal nursing assistant program or equivalent\r\nprogram with written consent from corporate Director, Health Services and be\r\nCPR certified. Must possess appropriate\r\ncertification or licensing in the state where practice occurs. A\r\nvalid driver's license is required.Must be at least 18 years of age.
