CMLTD Program Tenure Track Assistant Professor

The Communication, Media, and Learning Technologies Design (CMLTD) Program at Teachers College, Columbia University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek a colleague with expertise in new media, digital culture and communities, and the intersection of emerging technologies and learning. Building from a strong foundation in communication, learning sciences, media studies, or related fields, the ideal candidate’s research will incorporate innovative research methodologies and teaching to address current issues in media, technology, and learning (e.g. AI, XR, digital games, online communities). Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The CMLTD Program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to create, design, implement, and research novel technology-rich learning environments that can transform formal and informal education. Program faculty are interdisciplinary, drawing from communication, media studies and the learning sciences, with strong connections to the social sciences and social foundations of education. We emphasize a culturally, historically, and theoretically grounded understanding of how emerging technologies are designed, implemented, and leveraged in educational contexts to support learning and teaching, as well as to build a more just and equitable world.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain an active program of research and scholarship.
- Teach graduate courses in the areas mentioned above. The regular teaching load is 2-2.
- Advise and mentor doctoral and master's students.
- Participate actively and collegially in departmental activities.

- Earned doctorate in communication, media studies, learning sciences, or a related field (completed prior to August 2025).

Salary Range:

$108,000 to $125,180
